vervain Vai smiled apologetically, holding up her hands and shifting back ever so slightly. It was impossible not to tell that she had startled him, though she certainly hadn't meant to. "Alright," she murmured, her smile softening. Maybe it was true and he didn't need anything, but either way she couldn't force anyone to accept help. Letting out a sigh that was almost a laugh as he spoke again, she nodded to him in agreement. "Me neither... I mean. Where I was from, I was hardly sheltered. But this... it's madness isn't it?" Tucking a lock of hair back from her face, she tilted her head and seemed thoughtful at the prospect of him feeling like he ought to do something. "Well... I run this place, or close to it as possible. Do you want me to show you around, and you can see if there's anything you can help with? It's not... I know it's not the same as doing something about whatever's out there, but keeping busy might help." She straightened up, holding out a hand in case he wanted help getting up. "I'm Vai, by the way."
