The way Sam tilted his head up to halt their eye contact made the shininess of his tears all the more obvious. For a moment though, Remi just regarded the ascended. If this—they—could ever work, Remi needed to be able to be honest. Remi needed more in life than just someone to stroke his hair. He needed a partner. And if Sam could not be that, then this complicated tangle of magic and circumstance was not their biggest problem. "Once I thought I would wait for him forever.
