Well, what an odd creature it was indeed. Gideon (and by extension, Lam) had thoughts about what it might be, but did not say much of anything as he joined the line with his bag of hats, trying not to think about the Ascended he shared the line with. All of their efforts would fail, of course; a spirit like this wouldn't give anything to one of the Voice's creations, he was sure.
A girl before him muttered what sounded like a prayer to Ludo and he paid close attention to what might be a channelling. If it were, it was exactly the kind of devotion he needed to encourage.
Once he got to the front of the line, he began to fish hats out of the bag - helmets, crowns, jester hats, fabric creations - and put them all on, one after another, until there was a leaning tower of hats on his head in a variety of colours and wonky shapes. Once Gideon was sure no more would rest upon the pile, he held out the bag, still plenty of hats within, to the creature. "If you prove you can stack more hats than me, then you can have all of them for free."

Gideon stacks as many silly hats as he can on his own head, then offers other hats from the bag to the creature, challenging it to put more on.
