Mateo bites the inside of his mouth so as not to swear at the sudden pain that comes with inquisitive fingers prodding at bruised ribs, though he does flinch away a bit, only to force himself to relax into it. I'm okay. I'm fine. This is just another thing to tell stories about one day. If he repeats it to himself enough, it might just be true. "No, they didn't," he mutters, shaking his head. "The ruckus from across the street interrupted them, and so they ran."
And he supposes he has someone's abusive boyfriend to thank for saving his bacon this time around. Somehow it doesn't make him feel any better. "At least you won't have to see her now either," he quips about Cara, since Mateo also doesn't have any broken bones. "Maybe she is embarrassed of how she acted when we went out." He probably would have been, and Mateo doesn't do embarrassment.
Then again he doesn't do sexual assault either, but y'know, here they are.
