He expects Locke to make the first strike the second Sunjata slips closer, but when it doesn’t come – when that open bond feeling of sorrow crosses the bond between them, Sunjata nearly stumbles. He catches himself, catches Locke’s gaze, a reflection of sorts as he peers upon the bigger cat. He hadn’t expected this to hurt in the way that it does, but his heart breaks for Locke. Perhaps it’s just that he’s feeling more of his emotions now that Haai isn’t there to temper them. Now that it’s just himself, missing a vast part of himself, that makes empathy that much easier to come by.
Locke sinks down into the snow and Sunjata creeps a few steps forward, nodding in understanding. Isn’t that how it had been with Lusea?
