Childish as it may be, the Valkyrie wrinkles her nose at her brother in arms and flicks a little stinging bolt of lightning his way off her fingertips. It’ll static up his beard at best. Still worth it. “Am I rubbing off on you Reaper? I swore smugness was my thing,” she huffs, though she does nothing to hide the amusement and endearment that softens and sharpens her features in turns. Curling lips and rounding cheeks, sloped shoulders and slow blinks that translate a feline affection.
Watching the man haul at his companion while deftly verbally sidestepping her pointed comment, Hotaru snorts as if in delayed echo. So long as he does not backslide into the dark waters anew with his selflessness, she won’t condemn or needle beyond playful overtures. Though her ears prick and her shoulders turn inwards towards him as they walk as he speaks. “Pouting hm?” Over what? The word conveys more youthful irritation than anger, and she wonders what prompted it.
Humming softly, she basks in his happiness for her. “Safrin has placed magic upon the children of Caido; should the war put them at risk, they will be transported away to safety. Knowing that, and how safe the Greatwood is, I feel more at peace than I have in a very long time.” The begrudging gratitude is not so begrudging anymore because of it. Her feelings for Safrin are a twisted gnarl of mistakes and petty grudges, but when it comes to her children the Valkyrie is not too proud as to snub the Goddess for such a gesture. The freedom it awards her now leaves her feeling strong and capable at last. Ready to be involved anew without worrying about what might befall her children.
Casting a sharp look to the side at the news of Halo, her mouth twists into a grim line. “I’m grateful he lived to tell you then. What happened?”
