Juniper flies higher - she aims, she nocks her arrow, she fires... and gods, it really looks like a sure thing. But in an acrobatic feat that would seem impossible for a lamp (unless it were to, say, roll a nat 100), it turns its shiny metal ass to the arrow, and it pings off... directly into Sah. Ouchies.

Speaking of the Abandoned, his injury doesn't deter him from his own attack. Telekinesis snakes around the lamp, lifting it and slamming it viciously against the ground in a tinkling of glass that sounds like a scream. It's barely hanging in there.

Which is precisely when Noah steps in, swinging his bow like he's playing a game of golf (FORE!) It connects with the lamp, smashing it into the wall where it quivers for a moment, then lays still. All that's left for Locke to peck at are bits of glass and metal, but as a gore grow, he might find that shiny and fun.

Down the hall from the playroom, giggles continue...

With their foes vanquished -- for the moment at least -- Juniper lets out a long sigh. Today is the closest she's ever come to dying, and she's not eager to get any closer. In fact, there's some gratitude owed for her continued survival: "Thank you," she tells Sah. "I really owe you one." And, to Noah, she adds, "Thank you for the healing, as well."

And then it's time to look forward rather than back. (Part of Juniper still wants to try to leave the house, but she will not abandon her companions.) Bracing herself, Juniper turns to the door before them. "Well ... shall we enter the playroom?"



Maintaining her lights and hovering, Juniper suggests that they enter the playroom.

Sah gives the Fae a small smile, "Of course." Not defending those with him is unfathomable to the Abandoned. He reaches up and removes the arrow, tossing it to the ground with a small grunt of pain. Drawing his sword, he glances in the direction of the giggling. "Let's go. I doubt this will be the last trap we'll encounter so we should probably keep an eye out for any."

Assuming they continue on, Sah resolves to do his best to keep an eye on their surroundings. He also sticks close to Juniper, should he need to shield her once more. This mission will only be a sucess if they all survive.


Sah agrees with moving on and pulls out the arrow. He draws his sword and assuming they continue, he's going to try and keep an eye on their surroundings for traps. He's still sticking by Juniper.

I feel the pages turning, I see the candle burning down before my eyes
When the lamp seemed to have met its end, Noah turned back towards the others. There were thanks and acknowledgements, but as they stood in the hallway in a house that did not want them there, this was not the time to chat. Getting ready to turn, he noticed the arrow sticking from Sah.Just as he opened his mouth to tell Sah not to remove the arrow, the once-wolf did just that. "You need to make sure that's not deep enough to bleed out." He directed the other hunter.

"Be wary." Noah said as he nocked an arrow in his bow. "I don't think those will be our biggest aggressors." A hunch based in experience. Then, the Paladin moved with the group towards the playroom, where the giggling only seemed to get louder.


Noah tells Sah not to bleed out, everyone to be careful, and moves towards the giggling.

LOCKE
Locke pecks at the shinies for a moment before he shifts back, bending down to pick up some the glass and stuffing it into his pocket. Not entirely sure why but the urge to collect is strong. For a moment, they can breath and everyone seems to be mostly okay. Maybe he'll offer to patch Sah up after, as a peace offering. He's not sure of the other two's skills in that kind of thing.

Noah urges them to be wary and Locke snorts in return. "I'd say we handled that pretty well so far. Maybe we'll be attacked by a pissed off crib next." He shifts partially again, jaguar eyes and ears, swiveling to see and hear in the darkness of the house.

Locke takes some of the lamps glass (after shifting back) and partially shifts jaguar eyes and ears so he can see and hear in the dark.

Cool, so everyone simultaneously moves towards the giggling without ever going into the playroom. It's okay, guys! The KQ has got you covered. Beneath the party's feet, floorboards shunt and rumble, and even the airborne Fae will find herself shoved into the room, whose door slams shut behind the group.

The giggling stops.

Now it's... sobbing, it sounds like. A sad child, hoping for someone to come and play with it.

It drops from the ceiling, ultimately, landing directly on Juniper. The Fae will feel a sharp, lancing pain that seems to stretch itself through her bones, and then the thing is gone again. With a flump, it lands before the group. A raggedy doll, with staw coloured hair!

The sobbing continues.

Juniper holds back a startled shout when they all get pulled into the playroom. All right, well ... apparently they're on the right track. Or the wrong one. Regardless, they're where the house wants them to be.

And then the doll attacks Juniper, and she does cry out, dipping towards the floor as the pain distracts her from her hovering. But she catches herself, even if her voice is ragged as she glances at Noah and says quietly, "I'm afraid I might need a bit more of that healing."

She's done all she can to preserve her own life -- it's in Noah's hands now -- so she turns her attention to the doll. While she has her bow out, Juniper isn't sure that immediately shooting it is the best idea. Yes, it did attack her, but ... well, she's a diplomat. And this thing is taking the guise of a crying child. Lowering her bow, Juniper reaches out an empty hand to it and says, "Why are you crying? Don't you want to play?"



Juniper maintains her lights and hovering, asks Noah to heal her, and tries to "reason" with the doll.

Sah is instantly on guard the moment they are pushed into the playroom. But then the doll appears and his brow furrows. It's a doll but it's crying like a child. Feeling it tug at his heart strings, the Abandoned follows in Juniper's lead in trying to find a peaceful solution.

Still holding his sword in one hand, Sah regards the child as he steps slightly in front of Juniper, ready to defend her if the doll strikes. He won't risk it hurting the Fae further, but he still wants to help the doll. "Are you ok pup? What was the next game you had in mind?" Because surely the prior attacks and this house were part of the game? Had something changed?


Sah has his sword ready and is geared up to defend Juniper if the doll lashes out. He's trying to verbally soothe the doll too.

The wariness he warned the group to move with does not seem to go into anyone's heads once the house decided the room was where they needed to be.

Noah nearly stumbled as the house shuffled them along, but he was able to stay on his feet and his bow steady in hand. With the faint light from Juniper's magic flitting around, Noah tried to scan the playroom for something hiding in the shadows when it jumped down from the ceiling. The hunter jumped to the side, aiming his bow for the attacker. It jumped off of Juniper, but not without doing damage. Noah kept his body turned towards the doll -- the giggling turned to sobbing -- even as the fae asked for healing. Noah didn't respond right away, and her next actions followed by Sah's dumbfounded him.

Reason...with this? The creature that just attacked them....obviously these two did not grow up on the tundra.

But he did.

Noah's jaw feathered and he fired an arrow for the doll's midsection.

They're shoved forward into the room and a dolly drops from the ceiling. Not quite his haunted crib but close! The giggling turns to crying and he can't help the distress it fills him with. His comrades seem to agree. He hovers in the back, watching as they try to coax the doll. Except Noah. Clearly the man can't read a room. Maybe its his paternal instincts or maybe he's just feeling guilty about Edmund but he feels bad for the doll. He watches as Noah aims at the doll and he does what any self respecting moron does. He tries to grab the doll before the arrow hits it.

Words are sugar sweet, my dears, but only actions will solve your problems today. And there's plenty of action when Noah and Locke start moving - the former is quicker, but the latter successfully manages to get himself in the way of the poor little raggedy dolly. The result? You both win! If Noah intended to shoot Locke, that is.

Friendly fire isn't friendly, kids.

But as the doll is scooped up and lays cradled in the crook of Locke's arm, the sobbing dies down. The giggling picks back up, and then that, too, fades to nothing.

The house, though. Oh, the house gives a mighty shudder, as if it has just realised that it has eaten something it very much would like to get rid of. One of the fixings comes loose from the ceiling of the playroom, smashing across Locke's shoulder. It is just a glancing blow, luckily.

Better get moving. Better get out.



Locke HAS OBTAINED THE FOLLOWING RELIC:

Dolly from Miss Meadows | What a cute little ragdoll! When instructing the dolly to 'come and play', it will set off on the ground and inflict 100pts damage to the first creature it encounters (be they friend or foe). Juniper lets out a little noise of protest when Noah shoots at the doll, then a more worried sound as Locke dives for it. Yes, she'd intended to mollify the doll, but the last thing she wanted to do was actually touch it. Except ... it seemed to be working? The doll has been rendered harmless, and Juniper has a feeling that Locke has gotten a lot more than a new toy out of this adventure.

But if he or anyone else wants to benefit from it, they'll have to get out of the house first.

"Good job," she says, a bit questioningly, to Locke -- though she realizes only now that this man is a near-complete stranger, and she doesn't even know his name. As for the unfortunate accident that now has an arrow sticking out of Locke, well, no point in remonstrating. Locke can yell at Noah if they get out of this alive. Presumably Noah also had a good reason for not healing Juniper, but she does hope he'll get around to it soon. "Let's get out of here."

Juniper turns and begins to fly towards the exit, though not so quickly that her ground-bound companions can't keep up.



Maintaining her lights, Juniper starts heading for the exit! She's flying to keep off of the potentially hostile floor, but she's sticking with the group, not trying to outpace them.

Sah glances at Noah with incredulity as the man takes aim at the crying doll only to hit Locke. Was he heartless? Did a crying child have no effect on him? Still Sah can't help the small smile when the doll is soothed in Locke's arms. "Congrats." On the success or the new addition to his family? Both. But then the house decides it's done with them, and they need to leave. Preferably before Locke sets the entire house on fire.

"Let's go!" The Abandoned calls urgently as the house comes down around them, beginning to run but staying near the group. They likely don't have any room for hesitation. Not if they don't want to be buried alive. But they still need to keep an eye out for falling debris and breaking floors. Sah does his best to do so.

Sah goes for the exit while trying to keep an eye out for falling debris, breaking floorboards, etc. He's also trying not to outpace the group.

His arrow flies, but as soon as the fletching touches the wood, Locke dives forward. Noah opens his mouth to protest, but the jaguar leaps for the doll and cradles it in his arms. Noah's aim rings true and, to his dismay, sinks into his acquaintance. "LOCKE!" the hunter exclaims, watching as fire licks around him. Shocked, bewildered, and still dumfounded, Noah does the only thing he can at this moment: heal.

Igniting his divine opposition, Noah reaches out to grab Locke by the back of his shirt and pulls him as the rest of the group retreats. Noah tries to keep with them, ready to defend them if the house revolts further. He wasn't sure if they could get out of the door they came through, but at this point Noah was ready to shift and go through a window if he needed it.



Noah uses divine opposition to heal his friends, grabs the back of Locke's shirt to drag him with them, then follows the rest of the group towards the exit.

Magic: Divine Opposition | Noah summons a celestial shield dome in a 15ft radius. Any allies within the shield receive Basic Healing, and any enemies are damaged at a Basic level. The shield lasts for 1 post, with a 3-post cooldown.
