And so the fire smolders to a flame again as she grabs the bag and moves on and Sunjata’s left empty handed, drawing himself to his full height, following after her with his eyes on the sparking orange and red hues of the lava in the distance. He conjures a small amount of water, to wet the ash from his hands, dropping it as he shakes his hands out of the water, listening to it splash and splatter against the dusty ground.
“I didn’t. Because my experience with Safrin was terrible any time I thought of Nate or the Voice. I didn’t know what she’d do if I asked or doubted her.” He admits, running a now clean hand through his hair, tearing through the little knots in the dark waves as he does so. In reality, it was likely far better than the recent meeting with Safrin, but hindsight was twenty-twenty, was it not?
He sucks in a sharp breath as her fury reaches some kind of point, and his arms move to cross along his chest instead, watching as she continues to throw rocks into the bag, quite pointedly not looking at her face. “Nate says he’s talked to the Voice about it too.” But it was difficult, and Sunjata knew that even though Nate was strong and could protect them, there’s still that part of him much like Melita that finds it hard to trust the Voice in general too.
“It’s not that I don’t think he can, Melita. I just want a fallback option if the Old Gods win this so I don’t have to watch him wither to death if there’s no way to save him from her.” If there’s no way to save him from the Voice and her absence, the last thing Sunjata wanted was to watch as Nate grew feral, loss of fluid and solely on blood for however long that could last until he stopped completely. "You follow Ludo after all. The one that I recall has sent out missions to take the Ascended out." He points out.
