Nikolai skids to a stop when the squirrels congregate around their small pile of treasures. He feels a little bad about stealing from them, but his curiosity is more powerful. The glint of metal in the pile and their chatter about nuts and bolts are enough to make the choice for him.
Reaching down carefully, Nikolai attempts to pull out whatever metal thing he sees in their pile. He tries to move slowly so as not to anger the squirrels or knock over the rest of their treasure. It might just be a random pile but if they have some kind of organization to it, the Ascended doesn't want to mess it up too badly. He also doesn't want to get cut on any stray glass if the squirrel's words are a warning of it.
