“I’m trying to be a little more assertive.” He muses, that crooked smile growing on his face again. “Getting closer to Frey has taught me a few things about myself.” The idea that he can put his foot down, that he can do whatever he wanted and tell the consequences to go fuck themselves. All in all, better, brighter things in Sunjata’s future, to care less of the past and simply live.
She drops back down and in the process undoes a button of his shirt and he snorts, the already mostly unbuttoned shirt seeming like it’s hanging on by a thread. Not that he cares, he’s warm despite the slow creeping chill of Leafchange. The more open his shirt is, too, the more his scars are displayed, most notably how far down the gargoyle’s claws had gotten into his chest, where they’d torn out a few of his tattoos.
He’s content to follow her along, though, and she was right about it not taking long. The demigod following her lead as she guides them to the beach, to the water he’s always loved. She finds a flat rock and Sunjata’s dropped to the sand, onto his back with his arms behind his head, staring up at the sky. “Has it?” He asks curiously. “I’ve had so many near death experiences now that it’s hard to keep track.” He hums, a small tidbit he leaves open for her to comment on or not.
Still, he squints at the stars all the same. “Did you finish your quest for Safrin?” The one that had brought them here to the water, for him to pay her back in some way. His head tilts up from where he’s planted himself, moonlit steel focusing on where she works at her makeshift table.
