And if her expression of protective indignation was a touch exaggerated, the intent was not.
She waited patiently while he decided on a story, and listened quietly. It was more or less along the lines of what she hoped for; a glimpse of light in the darkness. Some display of kindness and compassion to counter the many terrible things she had been fed with over the years. It was so ingrained in her to dislike and distrust the Voice that it took her some time to process this newer perspective, even now.

Spoken in jest, her tone was light and playful to hide the massive guilt. How terrible was she even at keeping up with what her brother went through?
