A rogue at heart and in life, Jack has been dodging trouble and rewriting Torchline’s rules for as long as most can remember. Though his slight, rugged exterior might seem easy to overlook in the crowded alleys of Haulani, a sharper look reveals a man as dangerous as he is enigmatic. With an infamous reputation and razor-sharp wit, matched with eyes that see and say more than most can handle, Jack's real weapon lies not in his stance but in his piercing blue gaze—and a telepathic edge no one knows about. Recent endeavours—like romancing Torchline's queen and trading favours for children with Safrin—show that while Jack may lack a conventional moral compass, he’s bound only by his own ambitions.
Congratulations, Jack!

Perhaps he should have picked a better time than now to start this, but given that he can feel things ramping up and how he hasn’t really officially done much when it comes to his position in the Grounds, he figures now is as good a time as any. Of course, the snow outside makes materials a bit difficult to come by, but that doesn’t mean that he’s not going to at least try.
Because truthfully, it’s to make a little office space for himself similar to Wessex’s own in the Military Barracks. A space that he can go to rather than people stumbling upon him when they need him or heading to the Infirmary to speak with Isla in order to reach him. This simply makes things that much easier and the Captain wants nothing more than that with how complicated everything else has become.
So he sets up the notice board post, asking for people to meet him in the military barracks for some help on making himself an office space. And with the materials gathered nearby, he waits, walking around the little pile of lumbar and buckets of hardware brought in to make the job that much easier.
Open PQ to help Varus set up his space in the Military Barracks!!
A sound of light footsteps announced her presence long before Maea poked her head around a corner and glanced around. Though the barracks were not entirely unknown, it was still an area she had not frequented enough to be confident in, and she approached the gruff looking man with an expression that tried to be neutral, yet flickered between wariness and reluctant curiosity.
"Are you the one who wanted help with a building project?" she asked, in a quiet melodic voice. "If you are, I came to help." Slipping pale hands into the deep pockets of her over-sized coat, the diminutive girl peered around at the gathered materials. Taking stock of planks, tools and nails with a gaze that missed very little.
Darkeye went to the notice board, as usual, to try to find people who needed help. He didn't know Varus but he knew if he could help someone like Varus he would have someone to help him with his future work or name someone who would help him. Darkeye needed people who would help him. He already counted Maea as well as Deimos among his friends and hoped that they would do the same.
Darkeye walked quickly in the direction of the barracks. He knocked on the door and tried to gain entry. When he entered, he almost ran into Maea. "Excuse me. I am here to help. Maea, hello, what are you doing here?"

The first to arrive, a ghost-like girl, is followed up quickly by a shorter man than he is, and to both the Captain flashes a bright fanged smile of greeting to them. “Hey, yeah.” He begins, arms working in front of him as he goes to gesture to everything. “Name’s Cal, I’m the Captain here under Wessex. Just wanted to set up a little bit of an office space.” He gestures with the thumb of his metal hand toward the room behind him, light glinting off the material as he moves a bit closer to the two volunteers.
“It’ll help keep my things out of Isla’s hair with how busy she is and all that.” The Ascended laughs, before he sighs lightly and moves to pick up a few tools to hand to them. “First off, I thought we could work on cleaning up the space a bit. Patching walls and such then move onto furniture?” He’s got a bucket of spackle to try and fix any cracks and crevices, and on the inside there’s about four different spaces that require fixing.
Round one! Spackling and fixing the holes/cracks in the walls! Pick from wall 1-4 and we’ll roll and see how we do ;D Varus will take whichever’s left over!
Darkey suggests a bow, not knowing how to address the person. He introduced himself with rank a soldier perhaps. A metal prosthesis or no the arm moves too well for that.... "Greetings Captain Cal. I am Darkeye and I hope to help you." He wondered what the arm was made of.
Putty okay if that's what it's all about maybe they could finish this in a day or two and he could get back to his business. Darkeye picks the third wall and starts working immediately. He grinds the place first that it is even and so has a flat surface. But the damage is greater than expected a modest success (12 when rolling)
Darkeye takes the third wall and tries to repair it as best he can.
"I'm Maea," the girl supplied as introductions were given. It was a bit strange to think of anyone other than Deimos or Wessex in the role this man - Cal, was it? - now filled, though it illustrated exactly how long she had been away. So many things had changed, and this was perhaps the smallest of those.
The work the captain asked for was simple and to the point. Nodding a reticent understanding of the task, Maea armed herself with putty and knife and set to work on the first wall. Floor to mid-height was fine, but she knew she might have trouble reaching the higher spots. Good thing at least one of them was on the taller side... Though, a surreptitious glance at Cal confirmed that he was not one of the towering giant types.
Good.

So sorry for the wait! Maea picks wall nr 1 and gets to work.

“I appreciate any and all kinds of help.” He offers Darkeye with a playful wink, before his oceanic gaze flickers to Maea with a nod of greeting, committing the pale woman’s name to memory and offering an easy and quick fanged grin as everyone picks their task and walls and gets to work. Varus himself picks the second wall, another knife held in his fleshy hand while a smaller bucket of the spackle is held in his right, working to cover the cracks the best that he can.
But it seems all of their attempts start to backfire, the wall that Darkeye has chosen seems to have too deep of a crack for the amount of spackle to make a difference. Perhaps the Cleric needs to add a few pieces of metal within the walls to offer some support for the spackle to give it something to hold onto more.
Maea doesn’t seem to have much luck, either, her movements with filling some of the cracks in the walls have attracted a few humming bats that begin to hum quite loudly, and in their panic start to swarm Maea in their attempts to leave.
Varus himself has little luck as well, the cracks he’s gotten also attract the frightened humming bats, a few of them diving toward him in their attempts at a quick escape.
Round 2! Rolls weren’t all that great LOL let’s keep going!
How the bats decided that she was the cause for their disturbance she had no idea. But since they were only bats - loud singing that resounded painfully in her sensitive ears aside - and had the good fortune to be on the cute sude, Maea didn't do anything to harm them. As they swarmed around her she simply set down her tools and slowly walked towards the entrance, where she hoped to guide the confused critters outside. Perhaps larger space and the open sky might persuade them to flutter somewhere else.
Should it work, she would return promptly to pick up where she left off, mouth a thin line of determination as she sized up the wall and got back to work. Spackle was far more of a challenge to deal with, in her mind.
Darkeye nods curtly at Varus' wink and gets to work. The wall has more damage than expected. Either the rooms had not been used for a long time or someone had done a lot of damage here. It was not up to him to find out, but rather to help him, hoping that he would get support for his future work.
He set to work removing the damaged tiles and trying to put in a support beam, knowing that it would take longer but that way it would last longer. This could then be stuffed with dried straw and sealed with clay. So it was also a good insulation even if he did not know if Varus needed it.

Darkeye makes another attempt to repair the wall.

They all get to work and initially, things start to move pretty smoothly. The bats do convalesce around Maea, giving her idea of moving toward the entrance of the building a shot as they drift almost to the door. Only, instead of completely departing, a few of the bats begin to hum louder, darting back toward the little section of wall Maea had been working on – getting covered in spackle and trailing the liquid all across the floor and parts of her, too.
Darkeye, relatively uninvolved with the bat issue, has some of the best luck between all three of them. His work to remove the damaged pieces and repairing and patching the rest goes swiftly and before too long the wall is drying and good as new. Varus, on the other hand, doesn’t manage to get his bats away from the spackle as well, causing a bit of a mess that has the Assassin cackling like some kind of madman, trying to shoo them away with a metal arm and one covered in spackle.
Eventually, though, the bats go off on their own, able to leave Varus and Maea to continue finishing their chosen walls.
Round Three! Darkeye has the best luck between them all and his wall is complete! He can pick to do another wall or start working on the furniture! Maea and Varus get covered in a lot of the spackle and haven’t finished their walls yet.
