Arms tighten minutely, trying to hold the rattling pieces of Sunjata together, trying to hold steady. He deserves better than this, so much better, and yet this is all he can offer. “I’m sorry.” Nate apologizes immediately, fingers digging into Sunjata wherever they can. “I’m sorry. I need you to. I need you to say you will.” It’s not something he can leave, not something he can rest easy without. There are few things in the world he truly trusts, and nothing more than Sunjata’s word. He just needs to… actually get it.
It’s not ideal. Ideal is living together forever. Growing old and existing for nothing more than the other. Ideal is well beyond their reach. Nate wants what moments he can snatch and shove greedily in his mouth. Thumbs wipe at Sunjata’s eyes, smearing tears away without a word as they finally press together. “Haal asem, liefie, asseblief.” A soft plea, easier to grant than Nate’s last one had been. “You’re okay, Sunny, you’re doing well. I’ve got you.”
A paler than usual, fluidshot gaze meets the hazy steel, Nate forcing himself to focus, to wrestle detail from the too close picture. “I’m here.” He repeats again, voice growing warm, distant. A cool hand cups Sunjata’s face, damp thumb stroking at his cheek before Nate leans in to steal a kiss, to cement his presence in the moment. He’s here, alive and fine and fighting for every spare second they can have together.
Hunger pangs in his jaw suddenly, Nate’s mouth watering and his tongue prying its way in between his husbands lips. He draws back before the attuned can grow truly breathless, kissing at his cheeks and jaw, each press a little harder, the imprint of fangs pressing from the other side of his lips.
