WESSEX out of the night that covers me Wessex waits patiently while Samuel scuttles off down the stacks. After Maea starts to follow, she takes a step to follow, but then hesitates. It feels too much like Sam’s space, like an area she shouldn’t be in, with all the blood she’s had on her hands. It smells… like books back there. A vague recollection of her schooling pops into her mind, but even then, the elder Theskyra girl had always been more interested in rough housing than paying attention to the teacher. When her fellow Ascended bring the black book back to her, Wessex takes it gently, able to read ‘LongNight’ (funny how some words haven’t changed!), but a cursory flip through tells her that, indeed, everything else is alien. A soft, slightly frustrated sigh slips through her lips and her brows furrow in concentration. “No, I can’t read it either. But - ” she says with a tap of a finger on the cover. “There is a shrine to The Lady in the Atheneum, isn’t there? If no one else can read it?” She isn’t sure she wants to bother The Lady with something so trivial… particularly when she’d been told not to engage the LongNight monsters in her promise.
