Jack says, purposely not looking at Flora and letting a hand drift across the first aid box instead, as if those pads of gauze might be used in all manner of nefarious acts, if only Flora could use her imagination. Which he's very glad to say that she is, and he's just getting into her fantasy (a dominatrix in disguise, mm?) when Short, Stink and Grubby shows up.
Taking a slow sip of his whiskey as he glances around, he's irritated to note that it's the man he dismissed upon walking into the Hanged Man. And he's about to tell him in no uncertain terms to fuck the fuck off when the thoughts he catches are rather... sobering. "Spit it out," he mutters, prompting the gross little man to lean down and spill his metaphorical guts into Jack's ear.
Waiting an appropriate amount of time (he already knows what this shit is about), Jack jostles him away and gets to his feet. "I'm gonna have to take a rain check," he informs Flora, and would you believe, that's genuine regret in his voice. "Work stuff. The kinda stuff you'd rather not get involved in."
And so it's with a first aid kit still on the table and two glasses of whiskey - presumably for herself - that Jack will sweep out of The Hanged Man and out of Flora's company for the evening. Maybe he'll still be in her fantasies, though. Who knows?
