Already Ever has a routine. Even though it has only been a few days, the boy's mind is regimented or, as his mother sometimes says, inflexible when it comes to simply going with the flow. So when Ruth's call interrupted reading time, Ever wasn't inclined to go at all. Only Mateo's enthusiastic insistence (and maybe a nod from Tobi), had him pottering after.
With his notebook in his hands, Ever looked like Mateo's raggedy ghost; his curls weren't as neat, his cheeks were a good deal more pale, and his eyeline seemed always aimed at the ground. "Hello." He offered politely before wondering if he'd spoken loud enough for the old woman to hear. Swallowing hard he looked to Mateo for any sort of guidance before awkwardly collapsing into a sitting position with his notebook on his lap.
