She was shaking her head, tears falling freely with the soul crushing pain was tearing through her. He couldn't go, she couldn’t lose him, she couldn't withstand this, not her brother, not Ronin. She would trade anything, anything.
Ashe broke apart at his smile, her face crumpling with her tears. Live. No, he couldn't leave her with that, he couldn't tell her to live when he fucking wasn't, when he was leaving, he needed to stay here! But she still cracked a broken laugh at him. ”You got it crab-kicker,” she wept. His bracers went down at her feet, and she felt their impact with finality. No, no, no, no please, not Ronin, not my brother, please - This price wasn't worth it. She would live and die in this stupid fucking hell hole in the barrier instead of this, she didn't care about any of, he needed to be okay, he had to come home to his baby, to his family, to his friends and all the people he fought for and loved - She let loose a gasping, shuddering sob when he pulled her into a hug, and she threw her arms around him as tightly as she could hold him. She sobbed into his chest, heedless of the blood or the pain, she held him like that alone would keep Ronin there with her. But he released her, too soon, too soon. Her hand stretched out after him, and she couldn't even process what he was saying to Remi, could hardly see beyond her tears. Then there was his Goddess. His Safrin. The image of her brother leaving her, ascending to the stars themselves.. it would never leave her. It would follow her until the day she followed him. Remi was screaming, she knew, but she couldn't hear it. By the time the sky cleared, Ashe had hardly moved. There was nothing but absolute silence in her head, her heart, her soul. Numb fingers gathered the bracers, and somehow she followed Remi out of that pit. She was staring down at Ronin's bracers, and tears kept falling, but she could only shake violently. The girl looked up at Remi, and numbly, she began to limp after him, towards the only source of warmth left, that bond tugging her onwards. Ronin was gone. Ronin. Her best friend. Her brother. Ronin was dead. Live. His warm voice rang in her head like a keening bell, and it was all that kept her from falling to her knees. Live. and utterly magnificent. |
