"Good," Danta says, despite not knowing if he'd be here either. Statistically it's more likely, because the Ancient adores places like this, and he'll come back to Apopo again and again to enjoy the steam, the ash, the simmering water. "Until then," he says, as if he's going to peel himself away from the Flood and disappear back into the rocky crags of the sprawling volcanic shore.
He doesn't, of course, and by the time Sunjata succumbs to his fatigue, Danta is already snoring into his shoulder. Who knows whether he'll be there when the other man awakes again; perhaps they'll abandon each other here and be done with it. Or maybe they'll find each other again when they awaken, which would suit him just fine as well. He's always up for another round.
