So many times has he made lanterns for the Festival of Lights. So many times had he wished it wouldn’t be the one he’s carrying today. And yet, here he is, arriving not with Lusea’s this time or Maea’s, but with one that admittedly has been far more precious to him. It was carefully crafted, a deep dark, burnished metal base with flashy red outlines, the edges of a fringe around the glass that encases the candle within it from leather that has been dyed red. The glass itself is made up of two clear panels, while the other two have a decorative stained glass.

As similar to understanding Nate’s homeworld’s religion as he could, and with paint little words of Italian that he remembered are scrawled in toward the top. He trudges after Isla when she hangs her own, placing his beside hers and hears her request – offering her a soft nod. “I don’t mind.” He offers her quietly, reaching for a box of matches in his pocket, striking one to light her lantern before he goes to light his own – the colored glass reflecting against his face as he reaches for a cigarette to light.

He takes a deep drag, putting out the match and remains by Isla's side, ensuring her keeps the lit cigarette as far away from her as possible but still needing the relief of the nicotine.
