Darkeye
Nine strikes
The poor animal is in flames and continues to struggle. What kind of creature was this, what kind of toughness, what kind of will to survive or even to destroy if not to kill? Now it had to be killed. The chance to calm the animal was gone. Now there was only one solution to kill the animal. So unwillingly he did that.
He threw his second axe and tried to do as much damage as possible. He did not know how he would avoid the fire, but after this attack, he had to repeat the axes or fight with the spear. Hadama had already given a command, but it would only confuse people if he also shouted the command. Therefore, he concentrated on himself for the time being.

With a YELP! Everest retreats as the Owlbear rounds on him. He'll be reliving this precise moment every time light glints off of his cutlery or anything moves swiftly toward his face, and for years to come he'll have nightmares of talons clawing out his throat.

Understandably, then, the young aviator backs the hell off, skirting behind a tree with his tail tucked between his legs just as the Owlbear bursts into flames. If you stop to heal the creature will be able to do more damage while you're otherwise occupied. Ever thinks toward Ray, and though he was utterly terrified, his mental voice was as calm and astute as ever it was. I don't think the fire will spread, not with all of this snow. He adds, helpfully?, before borking loudly once more from behind the tree.

Ever uses logic! and bork! while hiding behind a tree.

Hadama tells the Fae to spread out and, given that his instructions have worked very well so far, they absolutely do so. However, it appears - unfortunately - that every ounce of luck they had was wasted last turn, because they are close to useless when it comes to being able to shoot at the Owlbear a second time. Thankfully, the mermanta's aim is better, and he strikes the creature a second time with an icicle.

Ray's throwing knife follows suit, burying itself in the beast's feathery hide, and it lets out a shriek-roar of pain that almost (almost) swallows up the sound of Everest's bright barks through the night. Whirling, on fire and in pain, the Owlbear blindly swipes out with an enormous, heavy paw tipped with talons...

And directly connects with Darkeye.

Call it a fluke (or some really spicy rolls, more like), but Darkeye manages to loose his axe on the creature even as he's thrown across the snow by the force of the strike, and it hits the beast right where he aimed. Alas, Darkeye will be feeling this one for days - the talons have sliced cleanly through clothing, opening some deep lacerations on his chest.

The Owlbear rears up and screeches its rage, and all becomes suddenly, significantly darker. The cold and the snow and its tough exterior have done the job, and it is no longer on fire.

RAY
In ancient times
cats were worshipped as gods
Ray winces when Darkeye is struck, but he's too far for her to heal. That and the Attuned in her mind has a point. Unless someone is on the brink of death, putting her efforts into stopping the beast might be for the best. Then let's take this thing down quickly.

Taking out her second throwing knife, Ray aims once more. It's unfortunate the creature is no longer aflame. She's hoped that it would be distracted for longer. But there's no time to dwell on it. She sends her knife flying, aiming as best as she can for the places that are already wounded. Perhaps they can make it bleed out? A horrible death, but Ray will take it over any further loss of life.

Hadama sent a pulse of grim assent through the Attuned bond at the hound's advice. Before he could answer, however, the owlbear raged and Darkeye was sent flying. The bright fire flickered out and with no moon or stars above the light came from whatever lanterns or torches the Fae still possessed and the starlit tines of his trident.

Hmm. Not ideal.

"Aim for the screeching," he called out to the Fae to loose their weapons once more. Following his own advice, he used his water magic to gather a column of icy river water beside him and guide it in an arc; first up and then slamming down upon the wounded, shrieking owlbear in an attempt to inflict blunt force trauma this time.

Hadama tells the Fae to aim their weapons at the screeching noise the owlbear is making.
He uses his water magic to arc water from the river up and over so that it slams down on the owlbear from above.

Darkeye
Nine strikes
Darkeye was first knocked away by the force. The leather armor was in the bucket. The adrenaline pumped and he felt neither the pain nor the cold in this moment. But a scar will remain. He admired this creature. But now Kor's gaze rested on him. He now had to show whether he was worthy of being called a war priest.

He scrambled to his feet and saw more daggers being thrown and the creature being hit with a fountain of water. Darkeye felt the thrill building up in him more and more. The grin widened and almost showed itself as a mad mask. The god who rides laughing through the battlefield was also a designation for Kor.

Darkeye got ready to be fast. He used the ability to teleport to the axes. He had to be fast now.

-----

Darkeye uses his axes to teleport to them.

Was Ever's presence here, all things IC and OOC considered, a hindrance? Oh absolutely it was, and the young aviator wasn't ignorant of that fact. Luckily the ability to compartmentalize was something he was very good at it, such that he locked away his guilt deep in the pit of his stomach for the time being and focused on ways he might provide some sort of benefit to those around him.

Bravery is not an adjective to ever been ascribed to the canine, but the overwhelming realization that he was doing nothing of use was what initiated the thing he did next.

With his tail tucked between his legs, Everest Hart ran at the Owlbear. His intention was to try and bite at the creature's soft (or, what he hoped was soft) underbelly, before darting the fuck away.

Everest uses SOCIETAL PRESSURE! and runs at the owlbear trying to bite at it's belly and then dash away.

Unfortunately for Darkeye, neither axe is currently in his hands, and so his ability to teleport is hindered. The Owlbear is, however, still punctured with icicles (melting now, albeit), axes and knives... and here comes Ray to add another to the mix.

Flinching as another blade bites through its feathered hide and into its flesh, the beast rounds towards the nearest target - and oh, it just so happens to be a sleek, black dog running right for its belly.

Everest does not manage to hit the creature... But it certainly gets hold of him. All but catching the Attuned mid-air with its great talons, it throws the dog away across the snow, claws biting deeply into his fur, its grasp squeezing enough to crack bones. Ever won't get up from another blow like that.

Just as it's finished swatting the young aviator away, Hadama goes and dumps a lot of water on it, ripping a further gargling screech from its throat. Thundering back around, a few arrows strike it from the efforts of the Fae; it isn't as effective as their first round, but they do hit, at least.

RAY
In ancient times
cats were worshipped as gods
For a second, all Ray sees is Enzo, not Everest. Gritting her teeth, she calls through the bond, Get behind me! They need to take this beast down now and as much as she wishes to heal the other Attuned, she relents. Taking out the last of her throwing knives, Ray takes aim once more. This time however, she partially shifts her eyes to that of her shangyang form. She can't afford to miss.

Locking her eyes on the bloodies parts of the owlbear, she lets her knife go. Gods, she hopes that this hit will land as well. If she's lucky, the canine Attuned will be in range to heal afterwards.

He did not know the hound's name but he respected its courage. Unfortunately there was a price for such bravery and Everest paid it with his body. Hadama remembered the claws of a sea panther in his own skin and his jaw tightened in sympathy, but there was little he could do for the Attuned other than to try and distract the owlbear away from the wounded dog.

"Continue your fire towards the screeching," he commanded the Fae grimly. They were wearing the strange beast down, but it had a significant amount of fight left in it - as Everest could attest.

He gripped his trident, taking strength from Safrin's trust in him, and gathered the water of the Stone Symphony once more. He raised his voice, a resonant command as he glared through the darkness towards the owlbear. "Come!" And he flung the water once more towards the enemy, intending to use the force of it to pound the weapons and icicles embedded into its hide in deeper.

Hadama tells the Fae to continue firing at the screeching!

And then uses his Water Manipulation to aim a high-velocity stream of river water to drive the weapons embedded in the owlbear in deeper.

Darkeye
Nine strikes
Shit, he had not understood his magic properly. He had to study the whole thing again right now he had no time for it. He grabbed his spear and there was a macabre image. He stood between the owl bear and Everest and looked down on the wolf and there was no pity in his gaze but murderousness. With one thrust he spat it out. After that, he turned around. The owl bear should not be able to reach Everest for the time being. Spears that was how to kill a bear. He would save the axes for when the opportunity presents itself. He didn't know how the others would take this picture. Not everyone knew the healing power of Darkeye. It already caused great confusion once. How fast the wounds close, however, depended on the person. Darkeye stood with a wide stance to keep his weight against the owl bear should he dare another attack.

Darkeye tries to heal Everest with the spear. He also puts himself between Everest and the owlbear.

Ever loves instructions, and so he readily follows what Ray tells him to do. Of course, he'd be an idiot to try and test his (incredibly poor) luck against the Owlbear again.

With a yelp of pain and something broken in his hind paw, the shepherd nevertheless lopes toward his fellow attuned ignoring the pain in lieu of using Ray's body as a shield. Everest might be a coward, but he wasn't stupid. I have...revivify feather.. He thinks as his jaws part to allow him to pant out his pain. Hopefully it wouldn't come to needing it, but just in case...at least someone would know to check his body for it.

Flicking an ear as Darkeye moves toward him, the man gives no indication of what he's about to do other than raising his spear. With a yeLP! the dog skitters back, trying to evade the thrust of Darkeye's spear, unaware of the benefits it could bestow. Growling low in his throat, Ever bares his teeth.

Everest hides behind Ray and tries to avoid Darkeye's spear.

Blind with rage - or perhaps there's blood in the feathers around its face, or maybe it's just very dark - the Owlbear roar-shrieks and rounds on any available target. In this case, it's Ray.

Blundering towards her, it attempts to swipe her clean from the ground as it has done with the Fae and with Everest just seconds ago... but someone rolled a critical dodge something remarkable happens instead.

For Ray, it's as if it happens in slow motion. A dance, almost, and as the creature comes crashing through snow and dark foliage, she makes the easiest side-step in the world - aiding Ever's attempt to get behind her, as it happens - and the Owlbear collides with one of the Greatwood's ancient trees.

Its talons are embedded deeply - deeply - into the bark, and it will take some time to get out. Looks like it won't be able to attack next round.

But we're not done yet. Both Ray and Hadama manage to add more knives and more hurt to the equation, and the warble of agony from the seething beast is beginning to sound almost weary.

And then we come to Darkeye. By some stroke of luck, because it's actually quite difficult to catch an animal that doesn't want to be caught, he does manage to nick Everest with the end of his spear.

The pup will undoubtedly be surprised when he feels better from it.

As for the Fae? In the commotion, unfortunately their weapons fall short this round.

RAY
In ancient times
cats were worshipped as gods
Ray's not sure if the owlbear purposefully slows down or if her shifted eyes just allow her to better predict it's movements. Regardless, she dodges with surprising ease. With Everest suddenly stabilized behind her and Darkeye at her side, she returns to the attack.

At this point, the herbalist is out of her throwing knives and only has her dagger left. Although wary of engaging the creature in melee, now might be her best chance. With its claws stuck, it's worth risking. Taking her dagger in hand, Ray rushes forward in an attempt to stab the owl bear and leap backwards after. She's not sure how long it'll be stuck and doesn't want to be within such close range when it breaks free.

Ray takes her dagger and rushes to try and stab the owlbear before leaping back.
