"My sister's got magic, too, an' she said it was th'same with her early water stuff," he agreed, be-Goggled eyes following the cardinal's flight. He drew in a little gasp right before the illusion reached the edge of Alys's power, his voice a distracted murmur. "Oh, so that's how it works..." And then the bird faded away and was gone. Tal shook his head ruefully and looked back at his tablemate with a lopsided grin.
"If you're gonna be in Halo awhile, you should check out the Academy. I don't think Ru or Sah have illusions, but they can probably help you with general magic trainin' an' stuff." A flicker of movement caught his eye and he glanced back down at the table to see the mouse looking up at him. He squinted through the goggles and then made out the outline of the magic, seeing both the illusion and the reality beneath. It startled a laugh from the courier and he broke off a little bit of bread from his bowl and offered it to the illusory rodent. "You're already good at makin' 'em move right," he said admiringly. "Say, when you were a kid an' y'had t'go t'bed early, did y'ever use it to make it look like your eyes were closed when they were really open? So your folks would think you were asleep when y'weren't?"
