Alys walked along, her eyes on Belial and his antics, oblivious to the myriad thoughts running through Deimos's head. Although she'd never paid enough attention to leadership before to have much of anything to compare Halo's to, she could easily imagine such power going to one's head. She supposed it probably helped to have multiple leaders, so that they could act as checks and balances against one another. Even with that, though, she couldn't imagine Deimos abusing his position.
Deimos continued to play with the rocks over Belial's head, the peryton snapping at them playfully, drawing another smile to Alys's face. "The Academy has been a blessing," she said, "But I really like Sea of Glass. There's something peaceful about all the snow and ice. It just seems to go on forever." Perhaps it was odd, to like the tundra so much, but Alys had always had an affinity for the lonely and eerie, and to her, that was what the frigid climate felt like. It made her feel like she was a part of something bigger than herself.
