Taking a pinch of some of the fibers from the center of the loose ball he began to twirl them between thumb and forefinger, lightly pulling so that a slender cord began to slowly take shape as he spoke. "We gather them from the surface," he answered first, a little bemused perhaps by the strange assumptions landwalkers made but inured to them by now. He spoke with an easy patience as he worked to extend the length of cord another couple of inches. "And bring them down to our City. If we want to drink their milk we must do so in air. But we eat underwater, as fish and dolphins do."
