He inclined his head in acceptance of her answer. He could ask for nothing more than that. The world was unsettled and endangered, and the most anyone could promise was just that: to try. "Thank you, Maea. Be well, too." His voice was solemn but his eyes twinkled in the night, pleased at the unexpected meeting. It had not been the restful contemplation of the divine that he had come seeking, but it had left him refreshed and improved his mood nonetheless.

"We cannot be strangers," he informed her gravely. "Since we have already met." He placed a large hand over his heart and gave her a careful bow, hardly needing the trident for balance but using it all the same. When he straightened again there was a crinkling at the corners of his eyes. "But we will meet again soon." Not a promise, but a prediction.

He did not linger over awkward farewells. Instead he turned and disappeared into the Eye of the Storm, slipping within the concealing greenery until he reached the pool at its center. He stepped in without hesitation, and his legs melted instantly into a more comfortable shape.

And then he was gone.
