Rather than choosing a shape that would easily be able to fell a deer, it's in his oldest shift that he peers up at the gore crow.
As a hawk he was perfectly capable of taking down a deer though it took a good deal more strategy and effort than as something more obvious like a manticore.
Fanning his wings, the hawk clicks its beak together.
