Lena would think naught badly of Anju – but the way it looked didn’t seem wonderful. She could see the Dragoon captain as someone on the inside, snagging at information when and where she could preside and provide, a placeholder so no one else was caught in Dahlia’s web. She didn’t know what to make of Everest either, besides a bizarre alteration in his personality. Her eyes shifted to Zavien for a spell, nodding at the sentiments and plans, and disappointed it had to happen at all. “Anju said she was a Dragoon first, and her duty to support the leadership.”
As for other things that had been spouted off, the Caretaker strived to take them from memory. “I asked her how she’d come to be the leader, especially after Sohalia – Dahlia said she’d found the pressure of leadership too much to maintain, and she stepped down. So Dahlia stepped in.” Which they now knew now to be the case, but in the anomalies of the woman and all her potential vitriol, Lena could’ve only pushed so far without being dead herself. “I also inquired about what she was going to do for Stormbreak, and only received ‘to make Stormbreak the best it can possibly be.’”
Ominous too, in its own way.
She swallowed down some other bile, listening to the rest of Koa’s plans. Staying in Torchline, not safe within these confines, attempting to gather allies… “I sent letters to Remi and Ronin after our trip to the Feverlands. I didn’t receive anything back, but maybe by the time it had gotten there, the broadcast had already gone out.” And then nothing but radio silence.
