There's no time for Mateo to congratulate himself for, IDK, blowing some of the spore thingies away, because Flora is howling like a banshee (he imagines, he's never met one) and their father responds to her call as if he'd been on the other line and she's holding a telephone (never met one of those, either). "Pa," he begins, before having to shield his eyes against the flash of starbolts.
When the light fades and Mateo straightens up, he's left wondering if he'd just imagined Remi being there - and the Walkin' Dude, given that it's just one lonely little palm now. "Oh. Gods, uh... this is awkward." Wincing, Mateo approaches the little palm and gives it a little kick, trying to stop it from throwing more spores at them. "Sorry."
