Deimos
Dare we know the halo's hanging low
After battles and tournaments, after births and renewals, perhaps the time was right for mischief and mayhem. A lighter, softer embrace of the world around them, rather than sinking and simmering into the what ifs and could-bes. He spent his days foraging for information amongst the missives, amidst the skirmishes and duels, alongside constituents – and then took the opportunity for the rest of Halo to breathe too.

With Erebos strapped tightly to his chest in a well-created sling (and adequately bundled for the cold), the Sword and his companions made their way across the Citadel’s pathways, back towards the initial, wide-open outcroppings after the northern entrance and gate. It was the usual haunt for those coming and going, with enough space to justify the intentions and juvenility of the moment – posting a notice along the boards of the ridiculous, pending event, and letting the locals decide how they’d like to set up shop.

Some with hot cocoa stands, some with chairs, some with their own plans for hastening and partaking. “A fort first,” he told Erebos on a deep, but whispering rumble, as if it were a conspiracy rather than a basic plan. The babe gurgled in response, trying to move a fist outward before Deimos delicately placed the arm back within the sling. Belial hooted and hollered ahead, while Zuriel sighed, and construction began to take place through Mastered Earth wares, unfurling and unwinding in manifestations of a modest, snow castle.

He had promised to come visit after the baby was born, and so Hadama had come once more to Halo. He had seen the fliers around the town as he disembarked from the skyship, wearing soft boots and a long-sleeved shirt in accordance with local custom in addition to his leather trousers. His Academy blessing provided the rest of the protection he needed as he walked through the Citadel for the second time in his life.

It seemed likely that the Wardens would both attend the event, so he followed a group of locals towards the northern entrance. The purchase of a mug of hot cocoa came first, and he sipped the sweet, hot beverage with satisfaction before he began to amble around in search of familiar faces, stopping occasionally to watch the construction of snow-architecture with a faintly puzzled tilt to his head.

Soleil
Better believe it, that my heart's on my sleeve
There's a bunch of broken pieces inside of me
Soleil arrives early to avoid the lines that always build around the hot cocoa station, and is already cupping a half-empty cup when Deimos arrives on the scene. This seems like prime territory for mischief and fun, and given the thorough comforting and correction her dad had given her, she's sort of counting on it. It will take time to believe everything he'd said and return to some form of normalcy, but Soleil - to her credit - had always been the type to march forward against all odds, which means intentionally throwing herself into these sorts of events again.

As Deimos builds up his fort, Soleil drains her cup and her eyes skip around for a better target given how many times the warden has soundly beaten her on the training grounds. Her eyes light up as she catches sight of Hadama (who is walking on legs? How little does she know about Mer?!) and she tosses her cup into the trash so she can sneak around the outskirts of the empty field to crunch snow into a projectile in her hand surreptitiously.

When she gets close enough, she pelts him in the back with a beaming grin, then runs for the proverbial hills to try and hide behind someone else's half-formed barricade like a cuckoo sneaking their eggs into another bird's nest.
From our beating hearts as they were colliding
Be gentle with me darling, tread lightly

It had not even occurred to Hadama that he might become the target of a vicious and unprovoked attack at this festival. He had just taken another sip of the sweet and milky cocoa in his hand when the projectile struck right between his shoulder blades. A splash of cocoa slopped over the side of his cup and onto the snow at his feet and the stoic Tidebreaker looked sharply back in time to see the culprit's familiar cloud of black hair ducking behind one of the pieces of frozen architecture. His gaze returned to the splash that stained the snow, an inscrutable expression on his face.

Then he lifted the cup to his lips and slowly and deliberately drained it before placing it carefully into a receptacle for such things.

The snow that he scooped up sat in his broad hands remained in a messy lump. The King of Torchline was unfamiliar with making snowballs and it showed. But that didn't stop him from striding over towards the in-progress fortress and dumping the chilly handful over its growing wall at the last place he'd seen Soleil's distinctive dark locks.

Evie
Maybe you find yourself instead of losing your hope
like an old love note under the floorboards
Evie and Deimos have an easy trading system with Erebos dependent mostly upon his feeding schedule (given they'd both be ecstatic to carry him at all hours otherwise), and in light of the events today she'd made sure to time it so that she sends them off with their son fed and appeased before the coming mild jostling and sound of merriment is due to chip away at it. Best to keep Erebos in high spirits as long as possible in public, though she has full faith that Deimos is skilled enough to bombard his opponents without so much as moving a hair out of place on the youngest Ignatius' head.

Equally in high spirits after her own imbibement (of the chocolate variety), Evie hunts down her husband and son and is pleased to find the work of a solid fortress has already been completed. Many times in past years she has waged war against her beloved during these events, but this time she approaches with a conspiratorial grin. "Room for one more?" With a twist of her hands she helps conjure and compile more snowballs for a good backlog of ammunition, magic filling the air between the three of them. As she looks out over the slowly gathering, wary builders on the field in front of them, Evie snorts a laugh when she sees Hadama get sniped by Soleil and his plotted revenge. Let the games begin.

Dare we know the halo's hanging low
The snowy castle manifestation unraveled at his ministrations, and he was more than amused at the stronghold freezing itself to the rest of the powdery compound. From their vantage point though, Deimos, and Erebos if he so chose, could see over the modest plains of Citadel walls and citizens, watching, and barely muffling his laughter, as Soleil snuck up on a surprised Hadama. The Sword was perhaps just as shocked the King of Torchline was here, but then again, that also presented opportunities.

Evie’s appearance caused another rogue smile, and he deigned his head in juvenile regards. “Always,” and he moved alongside so she’d have a present occasion to annihilate other venturers as well. It was a rare chance to work with his wife rather than against (as so often their mischievous tactics slid), and so seeing his chance, he conjured a massive snowball, and hurled it towards Hadama. The youth in his sling cooed.

yet my blood renders me a King
The disaster of a Tournament was over and Sah was back from his detour to King's End. The snowball fall fight was in full swing when he arrived. He managed to smile softly at Deimos and Evie when he spotted them, "I didn't get a chance to say it earlier, but congratulations." The expression was far more subdued than the Wild Thunder's tendency to be open and free with his joy. But could he truly be blamed for being incapable at the moment? It felt...wrong to feel or participate in something so bright and wonderful right now.

But Sah owed it to his family to pick himself up and keep moving. If that meant forcing himself to participate in a snowball fight as soon he got home, so be it. And what kind of father would he be if he didn't immediately throw a snowball at Soleil's back?

Another snowball struck while he was distracted by his first attacker, and a turn of his head brought the Warden team (and baby) into view. He contemplated the fort that shielded them for a moment, but it was Erebos in his sling who was the best shield that Deimos could hide behind. Hadama tilted his head in respectful acknowledgment of the attack and his lips quirked towards a smile as he met Evie 's gaze, but it was Sah who drew his attention as the young man sniped at Soleil.

The Tidebreaker's emerald eyes focused intently on the snow in the Wild Thunder's hands and he bent to scoop up another fistful of his own. "How do you shape it?" he rumbled, fascinated by this wintry game of dodge-and-throw. Frey had granted Torchline a small snow park once, back before the War, but Hadama had been fully Mer then, and far more intrigued by the ice skaters who glided above the canals as swiftly and easily as he glided within them.

Hadama's question shouldn't have been surprising given that he'd only recently gained legs, but it still made Sah blink momentarily. "Oh. Like this." He grabbed a fresh handful of snow and passed it between his palms, kneading it firmly into shape. He slowed his actions so that the Demi-god could observe each step thoroughly.

Once his snowball was completed, the Wild Thunder gestured to the fort that Deimos and Evie had, "And then you throw it." He tossed the snowball at the fort, watching it crumble upon impact into white dust. Reaching down, Sah scooped up more snow and managed to give Hadama a small smile, "Your turn."

Sah’s appearance surprised him, based on how things had gone recently, but he wasn’t about to comment on the younger man’s mood – some motions were probably justified, and others would simply have to amount to growth. “Thank you,” he obliged instead with a nod of his head and a free pass from any ensuing onslaught.

For now, anyway.

Hadama didn’t seem at all bothered by the assault, which caused his eyes to narrow briefly. Considering how the tournament had gone, Deimos was essentially a shield for anyone in his vicinity, and would never need to use his son as one.

Instead, he continued his unrelenting siege, hastening another massive snowball in his midst, while Erebos giggled from behind the sling’s guarded cloth, and hurled it towards Hadama again.
