Zavien

On his final stop before leaving Stormbreak, Zavien made his way through the Celestine one more time. He took in the sights and sounds, trying not to look at it all like it would be the last time. Despite the fears and anxieties, he had made a promise to come back. This wasn't a permanent decision, and he wouldn't leave his home to the clutches of the Family forever, but sometimes it was hard to see beyond recent events and the reality of the present.

Although his own strength might not be enough to make a difference, he'd seen what Safrin could do in the battle, had seen how her power shifted the tide of the battle. If his physical strength alone wasn't enough, perhaps she could help him shift the scales. He at least owed her an offering of appreciation for her participation in the fight, but he hoped she might be willing to do more.

Sol flew ahead, already knowing the way to the shrine that they often frequented. In his pudgy paws, he clutched the first offering, gently depositing it as Zavien entered. The glass orb displayed a snowflake inside, its crisp perfection representative of the part she'd played in protecting Halo and the others. It sparkled in the sunlight as he laid the second offering upon the shrine, a dark lantern that initially looked unassuming, the sides a nearly solid black; however, upon closer inspection, small star shaped openings speckled the metal. Taking a match, he lit the inside, allowing the stars to glow like the small flame of hope that flared in his chest, the optimist that still lived within. As a final touch, Zavien added a bouquet of flowers that the shopkeeper had called 'stargazer lilies,' their petals fanning out in five points.

Nerves bundled in his chest, but Sol's comforting nudge encouraged him to take a deep breath before calling out with a bittersweet smile, "Safrin, thank you so much for your help during the battle. You were magnificent, and probably the only reason everyone else made it out alive." Since he was sure she knew about the other events, he didn't mention them, even as his fallen expression spoke of the trauma of death. His head dipped with the weight of shame when he added softly, "I obviously need to do better, to be better..." Sighing, Zavien ran a hand through his hair. "I don't know how to do that yet... but after seeing your power, I'm sure that it couldn't hurt to strengthen my current weapons." Unsheathing his sword, he offered it forward as he glanced up. "Could you help me?"

Zavien is asking Safrin for a quest to upgrade his Starblade! If he doesn't roll high enough, please use his Level 3 Token! <3

Safrin
everything looks perfect
from far away
From the shadows of the Celestine, Safrin appeared—not with the usual flourish of celestial splendor, but with a subdued glow, her form weighed down by grief. Her eyes, normally sharp and playful, were clouded with mourning, heavy with the profound loss of her daughter. There was no triumphant radiance in her arrival, only the quiet, aching sorrow of a mother who had just lost her child.

The offerings he'd brought—the glass orb with its delicate snowflake, the dark lantern aglow with tiny star-shaped lights, and the stargazer lilies—brought the ghost of a smile to her lips before she reached out, her fingers softly lifting his chin. "Zavien,"  she murmured, her tone low and imbued with a sorrow that resonated in every syllable. "Do not let shame darken the light you bear. Especially when it is so undeserved."

As she withdrew her hand slowly, her eyes betrayed a pain that was entirely her own—a grief hidden beneath a veneer of duty and tender care. "Of course I will help you."

Both of his rolls were too low, so his level 3 reward was used!

Zavien has been given a quest! He must:

1. Leave his sword out beneath the moonlight
2. Complete 2 training threads with his sword
3. Experience the burns his weapon can cause so he knows the damage he can inflict.

Zavien

He hadn't heard the news of Seren's passing - wouldn't have even known who she was if he had - so Zavien was surprised by the lack of flourish that came with Safrin's arrival. At first, he thought it may have been for his sake, a restraint in consideration for his own melancholy mood; yet there was a depth and genuineness to it that couldn't be achieved with mere sympathy. As she lifted his head, he took in her words and appearance, momentarily drawn from his self-pity and the quest she'd given him.

His green eyes searched her, a familiar feeling of protective concern returning to his gaze. He couldn't imagine what may have transpired to dampen her own light, and he asked gently, "Has something happened?" The goddess certainly wouldn't need his help, but it felt right to have someone else to worry over, and she'd done enough for him to earn a level of personal compassion from him. Whether she chose to share or dismiss him, Zavien was grateful for her time, nonetheless.

and man cannot live without love.

Safrin

Safrin’s eyes darkened at Zavien's quiet inquiry. She paused, a tremor of sorrow rippling through her as she struggled to find words that could bear the weight of her grief without shattering the tenuous veneer of solace she had crafted. In that suspended moment, she felt the heaviness of loss in every fiber of her being—a loss so profound it blurred the edge of her divine light. With a slow, deliberate breath, she lowered her gaze, allowing the unspoken ache to gather in the depths of her eyes. A single, sorrowful tear slid down her cheek, an intimate testament to a pain she dared not fully name.

"One of my daughters was murdered during LongNight," she murmured, her voice soft and trembling. Slowly, Safrin’s hand reached out, pressing gently against the side of her face to catch her tear before it could properly fall to the ground. In that moment, the cosmic splendor of her usual presence was tempered by the raw, all-too-mortal ache of her loss. And though the precise details remained unspoken, the sorrow in her eyes and the faltering cadence of her voice spoke volumes: something precious had been taken, and nothing in the brilliance of the returning day could yet restore it.

Zavien

Never once would Zavien have imagined seeing Safrin cry. Her bright light and playful demeanor had always seemed infallible. To see her so stripped down and full of sorrow was jarring and somewhat frightening. The man in him wanted to reach out and embrace her, offering the soothing comfort of physical contact as he wiped away the tears; but the human in him hesitated to cross such a personal line with a goddess. It was not his place to be so familiar, even if she looked so human. Yet Sol held no such boundaries; the little dragon inched forward with a soft whine, pressing his snout against her before looking up with molten gold eyes full of emotion.

Although Zavien had nothing as fancy as a handkerchief, he reached into his pocket to offer a strip of cloth with tattered edges. It wasn't worthy of Safrin's tears, but he hoped she might know the depth of his sympathy for her. "I'm so sorry. I had no idea." His voice was as subdued as the setting sun, thick with compassion. He slowly shook his head in utter disbelief. "Who would do such a thing?" Who would dare? Possibilities ran through his head, but he refused to speak them aloud.

and man cannot live without love.

Safrin’s eyes softened as Zavien’s gentle words faded into the quiet murmur of the gathering. Her tear, still shining in the dim light, slid slowly down her cheek. Without a word, she shook her head slowly—a silent admission of the unanswerable sorrow she bore. Glancing toward Sol, the goddess offered a delicate smile before accepting the strip of cloth from the soldier.

"Because it happened during LongNight...not even I can see what happened to her," she murmured softly, the words carrying the bitter ache of defeat. There was no further explanation—only the quiet, raw pain of a mother mourning a lost star.

Yet even as the weight of her grief pressed upon her, Safrin’s eyes lifted to meet Zavien’s with a determined tenderness. "I do not wish my sorrow to dampen your light," she murmured, her words a gentle benediction meant to steady him. In that quiet, fragile moment, her gaze held a promise—an invitation to carry on despite the darkness. "I look forward to seeing you soon," she whispered softly, the echo of her voice a tender caress on the night air, before stepping back into the gathering shadows.
