Marcus approached the shrine slowly, boots crunching softly on the ice. The air smelled clean here, like cold and salt. He knelt, setting the offering down with care. Proof of fruitful life from the Citadel’s greenhouse: apples polished to a soft shine, a handful of berries cupped in his palm, and several springs of fragrant rosemary.

”Frey.” He cleared his throat. “I’m here again,” Marcus said, steady despite the knot in his chest. Last time, there had been only silence. He bowed his head, ”Im hoping you will unlock another part of my soul, another shape that fits what I’m becoming.”

Hope was a dangerous thing, but he held it anyway, hands resting near the fruit.

The wind howls desolate across the sea of glass. A few of Marcus' offerings shift in the breeze, though whether it's an acknowledgement of his presence or merely a result of the tundra winds is not clear. Regardless, despite his call, neither form of Frey appears to him.

Marcus waited.

The silence was overwhelming. 

He was left alone, once more, at the shrine before him. Frey did not answer his call. 

He took in a deep breath. Marcus brushed the snow that had collected from his shoulders, shaking out his limbs that felt too heavy and weary as he turned. "Thank you for listening." He prayed aloud, despite a lack of physical presence from the herald. The wind picked up slightly and moved the light berries on the altar, the sprigs of rosemary dancing on the cold breath. Marcus tightened his hood, thinking of taking the walk back to the lodge.

Instead, he shifted in place. Wings unfurled and feathers covered skin, bones shifting and shrinking and hollowing. MArcus beat down his heavy, powerful wings until Halo's sky took him in once again.
