There is no single moment when Stormbreak ends. There is a long, terrible unravelling; a city held together by will, vigilance, and the refusal to let panic win. For weeks, Stormbreaker's Commander Zavien stands at the heart of that effort, coordinating an evacuation that does not falter even as the ground beneath his feet betrays him. With Sohalia and By the time Stormbreak finally gives way, there is no one left to hear it scream. The city shatters high above the Arclight Ocean, its fracture lines blooming outward in a final, catastrophic release. Whole districts shear free at once, plunging downward in a rain of marble, steel, and memory. When Stormbreak strikes the sea, the impact sends colossal waves racing outward, the shock rolling as far as the Oerwoud, the ocean itself recoiling under the violence of what has fallen into it. Beneath the surface, the wreckage disappears into the depths of the Arclight, settling forever into its lightless expanse. Not all of it falls the same way. Through the direct intervention of Safrin and Frey, the Celestine does not plummet. It descends. Slowly, deliberately, the greatest remaining portion of Stormbreak is guided down through the sky, wrapped in divine steadiness. It touches the ocean like a held breath finally released, becoming the largest of the islands left behind, whole and intact. When the storm clears, Stormbreak is no longer a city in the sky. It is a region of three islands, scattered amid churning waters and treacherous currents, the remains of a floating utopia broken and remade. Travel between the islands is difficult and dangerous; without a skyport, only personal flight or small sailing vessels can brave the waters, and even then not without risk. Submerged debris lurks beneath the waves, and fragments of the old city surface here and there; cracked walkways, half-buried statuary, the pale bones of what once connected everything together. Stormbreak: Formerly a floating utopia, Stormbreak collapsed into the Arclight Ocean during Longheat 320 PC. All that remains of the region are three scattered islands — the Celestine, the Tower, and the Archive — each nestled amid churning waves and perilous, submerged debris. Travel between the islands is only possible with personal flight or small sailing vessels due to the rough currents; with no skyport, regular skyships are unable to make the journey. Remnants of the old city can still be found on the islands or in the waters below, but these are little more than ghostly reminders of what once was. The Celestine: Created through a partnership between Safrin and Frey, Stormbreak’s largest island drops those who walk there into a gorgeous, star-filled twilight. Unique enclosures may be found throughout, some reaching high into the sky or plunging deep into the ocean beneath, accessible only via magical platforms. These enclosures house mythical creatures from across Caido, placed there by Frey when they become ill or injured. Visitors may enjoy their presence while they recover — and glimpsing a rare creature is far more likely here than anywhere else in the world. The Tower: Stormbreak’s former seat of power stands lonely and jagged at the centre of the second-largest island, a hollow shard pointing accusingly upward at the gods and all those who fly overhead. Once a marvel of gothic architecture, the Tower is slowly being reclaimed by nature, its stone clogged with moss and overtaken by vines and flowering growth. Fractured remnants of an old plaza can still be found across the island, though the wilderness is steadily consuming those as well, erasing the last traces of order piece by piece. The Archive: Once a sacred space for those who sought knowledge within Stormbreak, the Archive was home to countless scrolls, books, and ancient texts kept within its quiet halls. Those halls are no longer quiet. The colossal building now occupies almost the entirety of its island, and while its marble pillars and endless shelves still stand, other things wander among them. Spirits are abundant here — some playful, others decidedly not — haunting the Archive like devoted, if unsettling, custodians who refuse to let its knowledge be forgotten. Stormbreak did not end in tragedy. It ended in transformation: a city broken, a people saved, and a legacy scattered across the sea, waiting to be explored. |
