It’s still anyone’s guess if Chani will tell true, and Colt certainly suspects she won’t tell it all, but she hopes this is at least the start of a blossoming connection. Someone who could benefit from the work she’s trying to do out here, someone who could find their safety and means of life improved with something done here. Not that Chani’s asking for that, but she might find it to her tastes, in time. If not, if she chooses this combat every day, which Colt can understand, rest assured that Colt knows it’ll take a good deal of time, and never intends to fully rob this place of its wildness. There’d be parts that remain untouched, including, as promised, a large section of sand dunes for Ronin to vent his flaming frustrations into.
Swinging up into her own saddle once they finish loading up both horses, Colt watches as the group convinces the camel to stand. One of its back legs avoids bearing weight as much as possible, but the swelling and open wound is reduced thanks to Zavien’s touch. The rest would take time, or someone more skilled, and it seems they have that back at their camp.
Together, they all plod further down the stretch of land, sharing knowledge and dreams, and they get some of that cactus fruit after all, both nourishing and refreshing, sticking with them better than their canteen water. A trick, she’d consider for the future. With their help, the caravan doesn’t lose out on all their profits built into the wicker baskets and sacks they help deliver to their camp, where they take it from there with a fresh camel. Not charity, but trade, and the start of something.
