Tal wasn't exactly thrilled with his comparison either, especially since he was way more of a dog person, but here they were. Looking over the mess on the beach the courier visibly wilted. Heaving a long-suffering sigh he gave a glum nod--

And then winced at the sharp whistle so close to his ear. He shot the Queen a wounded look, but perked up a moment later when she started motioning other people over to come help. At least it wasn't going to be just the two of them vs. the whole-ass beach!

He went to help push the wagon over and then grabbed a rake from the back. It was the kind used to clean seaweed and litter off the beach and he figured it would work pretty well for collecting the dried clumps of blood into place so they could bag it. Starting down by the tideline, figuring they should probably try and get the stuff closest to the water first, he got to work pulling the rake to sieve out the good sand and collect the larger bits and bobs of leftover Void Horror into a pile higher up the beach.

"So, uh... haven't heard from you in awhile," he started, making an awkward effort at conversation. "For quests an' stuff. Everythin' okay?"

Tal grabs a rake and gets to work! He also attempts small talk!

RONIN
With a grumble of unease at the sight of the Oerwoud and it's more-purple-than-normal appearance, Ronin makes a mental note to try and see if anything can be done once he's finished with his current task. A task he's trying quite hard to keep his claws around, at least until the Feverlands blurs into view at last. But of course, one doesn't earn the moniker of White Knight by taking the easy way out, and so whilst he certainly wants to just let go of the thing and be done with it, it's best to see what he's working with first.

And so, wings beating hard over the Feverlands, a white-hot glow begins to ignite in the dragon's throat, and Ronin unleashes a blast of celestial fire down at the trees. If he's lucky, he hopes he can just burn away a few of them and make sure the coast is clear, so to speak. And if he's not lucky?

Well. He's spent a lot of his life being not lucky, so he'll deal with it.

Ronin lets out a blast of celestial fire to try and clear an area of the Feverlands to see if the coast is clear to drop the boulder!

i could be the reason you can't sleep at night
Fully ignoring whatever damage she might have done to Tal's ears, the queen followed the courier's lead to indicate that they should all start down by the water first. "And seriously, don't half-ass this. You don't want this infecting your food." She yells, shooting the gaggle of citizens a warning look.

Scooping as carefully as she could so as not to contaminate the beach with even smaller bits of the creature, Flora wiped at her cheek with her shoulder as she glanced toward Tal. "Yeah, I think the gods kinda got wise to it." She admitted with a grin. "Right now my quest is just to be lucky." Waggling her fingers as if to indicate some hidden force, Flora shrugs. "And, considering all this nonsense, I don't think I'm doing too well."

Though celestial fire, as Ronin had recently learned, wasn't effective against proper void creatures, when it came to things merely infected, fire was fire. His blast cleared the way and wouldn't you know it? The arrival of a dragon and the accompanying wall of fire was enough to scare away much of the local fauna. No reason not to drop it the creature down below.

It hadn't even crossed Tal's mind that this crap could be getting into the food supply, and he looked a little green around the gills as he considered the mess with a whole new level of disgust that he hadn't known he was capable of. It made him want to get the Peregrine fixed even faster, but since he was stuck for the time being he resolved to be as careful as possible in getting every last gobbet and clot off the beach and away from the water.

Conversation might make the work a little less awful, though he was soon glad of the Deepfrost coolness in the air as they began to work up a sweat with all the scooping and raking and hauling bags. "Damn, guess it was bound t'happen eventually." Not that he would have minded a few more trades out of the Queen first! But easy come, easy go, as the gamblers said. News of her current quest had him blinking and then giving a curious grumble as he used a thick stick of driftwood to carefully nudge and scoop the growing pile of jiggly purple flesh(??) and assorted offal into the waterproof sacks from the cart. "Ewww-- I mean, uh, yeah. Me too. Though I guess he didn't say what kind o'luck. Bad luck might still count, too?"

Tal keeps raking and bagging the purple goo into waterproof sacks to get it off the beach!

RONIN
It's not an easy task to keep hold of a petrified void monster corpse for an extended period of time, and Ronin's wingbeats are quickly growing laboured even for a demigod with beyond-mortal strength. Thankfully, his sharp eyes can make out absolutely nothing to be concerned about in the swampland below - although, yes, that is in large part thanks to purification by celestial fire - and it's more than good enough for him.

With a keening roar that echoes across the little region, Ronin finally uncurls his claws from his burden and watches as it plummets into the depths of the Feverlands and is officially no longer Torchline's concern. Feeling (literally and metaphorically) much lighter, the dragon circles once before soaring back the way he's come, much quicker on his return than he had been heading out.

Ronin drops the void-boulder-corpse into the Feverlands and heads home!

"Yeah, but I mean, if there's ever anything they ask that you can help with, I'll make sure to write." The queen says as if she was somehow doing Tal a favour by including him and not simply taking advantage of his relationship with her mother. 'I meeeannn...maybe, but I'm not sure I want my item to bring me bad luck, if that's the case." Flora says, wrinkling her nose with distaste.

Though the work isn't difficult, it gets more tedious as the day goes on and the larger clumps of the creature are hauled away leaving the beach scattered with smaller pockets of blood that need extra care and attention to cleanse. It's monotonous and backbreaking, but as the sun starts to set, Flora thinks they might be in the clear.

"Thanks for helping Tal. Let me know if you need help with your boat, thing." The offer is made strictly because she knew he'd not take her up on it because of timelines, lmao.

As for Ronin? Down and down the stone-monster falls, slorping into the mud and all but disappearing in a plume of toxic violet mist. Whatever happens, it isn't like the Feverlands can get more infected, right?

Right?
