[Training] A round of a paws

Sah leaped out of the bush and landed in a mirrored play bow, laughter echoing through the bond. You got me! Sohalia was progressing rapidly. Perhaps it was the jaguar's instincts and the Attuned was simply becoming in tune with them. Still, the hybrid was proud of her.

He jumped beside her, playfully knocking his shoulder into Sohalia's. Great job. Ready to go again? When Sohalia was ready and vanished into the trees, Sah returned to the center to wait. After the agreed few minutes, the wolf began to focus on his surroundings. Sight, sound, smell, and even just intuition.

She was harder to detect this time, which was fantastic. After a few tense moments, Sah thought that he felt a slight vibration. It might have just been a bird landing heavily or a rock being dislodged somehow and sent rattling across the earth. He might have disregarded it any other day but with the current exercise, Sah decided to react. He twisted and stared into the bushes in the direction of the sound, hoping to lock eyes on a familiar feline.

Sohalia was excited by her growing ability, due in no small part to her shift’s instincts. She was not what one would call a master huntress, by any stretch of the imagination, but she was eager to learn, and she lived for external validation. Sah’s praise of her efforts went a long way towards boosting her spirits, and bolstering the growing friendship between the two.

When it was her turn again, Soh slunk into the trees, this time focusing on where her scent would be going. Careful to stay downwind, she crept closer and closer, using all that Sah had taught her. But just as she was about to pounce, the hybrid whirled to face her, staring into the bushes and locking eyes. Just for fun, Soh pounced anyway, landing in front of Sah with a rush of excitement down the bond. Was that better, with the wind? she asked before taking her place in the center.

Sohalia

Sah gave a wolfy grin as he saw Sohalia. Her pounce had him laughing again and the wolf reared up to playfully swat at her. Yes! The only thing that gave you away was a slight thud. I think you might have taken one heavy step. If I hadn't been looking for any signs, I likely would have missed it. The wolf ran a happy lap around his young friend. How about one last go before we find some lunch?

With plans made, the hybrid disappeared into the trees. This time he moved as quietly as he could, staying downwind and being careful not to disturb any of the animals or snap any twigs under his paws. Once he had Sohalia in his sights, the wolf got ready to pounce, about to tag the jaguar unless she noticed him first. Sah was curious to see just how far she'd come.

Pleased to have elicited a laugh from Sah, Sohalia’s tail flicked happily behind her as she took her place in the center of the clearing. She counted carefully, her ears flipping this way and that. There was a bird’s call. That scurry in the leaves was probably a mouse. For a moment, she was tempted to give chase, but not in the middle of their game. And, honestly, probably not after - she didn’t really want a field mouse as a snack.

She strained to hear Sah and found nothing. Smell, too, failed her. She was left entirely in the dark until he pounced upon her, tagging her. Despite her failure, she was still proud of how far she’d come, and she happily gave chase through the trees as their game turned into a tagging run through the woods.
