Character of the Season
Frail in body but dangerously quick of mind, Nikandr is the sort of character who proves that curiosity can be just as perilous as any weapon. A necromancer, inventor, and problem-solver with more ambition than self-preservation, Niki approaches the world like a puzzle box begging to be opened, even when what’s inside has teeth. Blunt, dry-witted, fiercely independent, and carrying a history best left partially buried, he has a knack for making even failure feel fascinating. Whether he’s raising the dead, moving across Caido to King's End, or experiencing a hangover for the first time, Nikandr brings a wonderfully strange spark to Caido, and we can’t wait to see what trouble his brilliant mind wanders into next.

Alys
The Burrows in Longheat were hot. Alys had been a few times that summer, but the suffocating heat always took her by surprise. She dressed as comfortably as she was able, but it wasn't enough. By the time she reached Frey's Breath, there was a sheen of sweat on her face and her hair, tied up and out of the way, clung to the back of her neck. At least the cavern holding the hot springs was cool by comparison.
"So you said we have to choose between harvesting unicorn shavings, training soldiers, upgrading the region, or taxing citizens, right?" Alys asked as they neared the springs. She sat down a small bag containing some water and snacks, then shrugged out of the cover up she'd worn over the plain swimsuit she'd chosen. "Do you have any initial thoughts?" Alys had her own, of course, but she'd see what Sunjata thought before jumping in.

Its a stifling heat, one that he tries to alleviate for a few moments with the cold swirl of water that surrounds them upon their approach. Frey’s Breath is always a welcome choice to visit, regardless of the fact it’s Longheat and they’re in the Climb, and as she slips out of the cover, Sunjata’s joining her in shedding his shirt, but remaining in the swim trunks he’d already slipped on in preparation.
Dipping into the water, the Flood’s skin suddenly covers with dark floral tattoos every spot the water touches, but with his eyes peeled for any flowers that might be lingering in the waves down here, he returns his attention back to her on the edge of the hot springs. “Yeah. So.. We’ve already collected shavings a couple of times. And I don’t want to start taxing citizens while we have all the refugees..” He sighs softly with the thought. “I think maybe this time I’m gearing toward upgrading or training? What do you think?” Pausing as he swirls some of the water with his magic, he drifts deeper in. “Oh, and hopefully once this void business is done, I was going to see about reaching out to Danta about trading some shavings for the Hollowed Grounds’ bottled lightning so that we can help Colt electrify her fences.” The future plan is an easy one, things he’s already noted and talked about.

Sunjata speaks with an Australian accent and has a passive magic that makes him produce a subtle scent that matches exactly to whatever those around him most desire him to smell like.
Sunjata's thoughts on the trajectory of the region aligned well with the seer's, and Alys nodded along as he spoke. She eased into the water, sighing softly as the warm liquid lapped at muscles she hadn't even realized were aching. "I agree," she said. "I think... I'd rather focus on training soldiers. Even though the Dragoons are sheltering with us, I think we need our own defenses. If the worst should happen... I'm not sure what we could upgrade that the Family couldn't just destroy, if we don't have the means to defend it." She glanced at Sunjata, unsure that her reasoning was sound but hoping that she wasn't making a fool of herself.
The thought of the Void business being over and done with brought a little hope to the conversation, and Alys leaned her head back against the edge of the springs as she smiled. "It would be nice to establish trade with the other regions, one day," she agreed. "And to be able to help people in King's End grow."

Nodding once he’s settled in the water, feeling the warm droplets spill down over his freckled cheeks and from his scarred eyebrow, the Flood flashes Alys an easier smile – content with the agreement between them. Her glance is one that he can read well enough, the uncertainty of whether she’s making the right decision (which was honestly the majority of what Sunjata questioned on the daily when it came to running the region). “Soldiers sound good.” He agrees, confirming her choice just in case she was still nervous about making the wrong one.
A choice made to better their people if the Dragoons were to leave anyway. And as for trading with the other regions, he nods to that too – pausing before he responds so he can glance one more time around the hot springs. “Perfect. That’s mostly it… When we get back I’ll make sure to send off the notice of training.” Done and done, without a single issue to be had in their decision, which only proves to Sunjata that he’s made a perfect choice in asking her to be part of his council.

While their trip was useful insofar as deciding on regional assets went, it did not, unfortunately, yield a lily. Alys continued to scan the water for one as she relaxed, reassured by Sunjata's quiet agreement with her suggestion. She could feel that he often questioned his own choices, and it was that, more than him simply agreeing with her, that made her feel more confident in her own. If they were both on the same page - both consciously and subconsciously - that was encouraging to the seer.
With no lilies to be found and decisions already made, all that remained was to soak up the warmth of the hot springs - at least until the heat became too stifling. Then, the pair would make their way back out of the Burrows and back to the relative safety of King's End.
