"I will mourn you as dramatically as I do everything else in my life, if that means anything," Niki assures her - which is to say, quietly and with occasional dark humour. Flora seems to enjoy it either way, so he doesn't feel too bad about the decision - especially as she spookily shuffles around the table towards him. It's that sort of humour, in fact, that he feels might have saved him from whatever she might have been planning next, and she's rewarded with another peal of laughter from the boy.
"I did not realise that imitation was the fastest way to your heart," he tells her, smiling. "I will be sure to remember that." He sets down his work for another tea break, cradling the cup in his hands and seeming satisfied with their progress thus far. "You are right, of course," he says of Ludo and its choice of location. "I suppose we will just have to wait and see." A beat of silence, before he's glancing up at her directly.
"Thank you, Flora," Niki says earnestly. "I did not know I needed this, but I think I really did. I look forward to attending the party with you."
