Life can be tough, there's no doubt,
But hope is the thing we can't do without.
Unaware of any recent love-related animosity between Koa and Kaisel, Zavien invited Kai to join him in doing some repairs around the city. Despite having worked day and night for the past few weeks, the work seemed never-ending. For every task he completed, three more popped up, the influx of requests for assistance only ever appearing to grow; yet Zavien couldn't find it in himself to be upset. He'd much rather be overwhelmed with the means to improve the city than still be in exile, and he would continue to thank the gods every day for that.

His sleeves are already rolled up, a sheen of sweat on his forehead as he moves a large boulder out from a planter box where it had fallen. Sol grabs a smaller one from the other side, dropping it into the pile they'd formed near one of the alleyways, chirping excitedly at the arrival of their friends. Zavien straightens to take a drink of water and spots Kai and the other man who'd agreed to help, a blinding grin on his face that seems impossible with how tedious the work is. Still, he waves, summoning them over as he steps away. "Hey! Thanks for coming! There are a few bigger tasks I needed some help with today. I hope you brought some strong muscles to make the tasks easier." There's a twinkle in his eyes that easily replaces the sun that's hidden behind the overcast sky - the perfect conditions for manual labor.

Turning to the new man, he offers out a hand and a friendly grin. "I'm Zavien, by the way. If you find that you need some extra power for something, feel free to grab one of my items." He gestures to the table where they're laid out for others to use during the day.

Welcome to Zavien's Accepted-only Item-focused PQ!

Got a spark in your heart so strike it
He'd told Koa he'd help Stormbreak when it needs it, and he means to make good on that regardless of their argument and the unknown outcome. Although he's not particularly keen on ripping off the scab that is his current relationship with his cousin, not when it's still a bit fresh at least, he doesn't intend to hide from his family or his home either, not if he can be useful. Besides, whatever comes between them, it doesn't change the fact that he loves his cousin.

Still, Kaisel intends to keep some healthy distance today and avoid swinging by Koa's house. He's here to focus on the work only.

Bundled in a maroon hoodie over a black hoodie over a white long-sleeved shirt that says THE FLOOD in font styled to look like dripping water, placed beneath a grinning headshot of Sunjata, Kaisel heads towards where Zavien had asked him to come. He's also wearing some grey joggers and sneakers, his trusty backpack with him, the weapons he was asked to bring tucked away inside. "Hey Zav, Bob Damien," he greets with a wave, glancing towards the dragon with a smile, "and Sol." He's a touch cautious, even around Zav. He figures by now the dragoons have all heard about him staying at King's End, feeling a little bit like he ditched them all, much as he doesn't mean for it to be that.

Focusing on the work though and not all the bullshit, Kaisel appraises the boulders already gathered. "My knuckle dusters have air magic, could help move or break some things. The chakram can also cut anything that's gotten tangled up, and could help grab things when it returns to my hand, if they're out of reach and I angle it right." He muses for a moment, rubbing the corner of his chin. "Otherwise, all muscles baby."

Kaisel arrives and has his air knuckle dusters and returning leviathan chakram AND his super duper strong muscles.

Damien
"I never see you at the club!"
Okay? I never see you at the creek
Damien’s boots scuffed lightly against the cobblestones of Stormbreak as he approached the cluster of activity. The mist clung to the streets in the early afternoon, curling around gothic spires and half-finished repairs like it was reluctant to let anyone pass. He’d been en route from a delivery run to Torchline, the skyship emptied, the air still carrying the faint scent of resin and winter pine. The detour here had been almost instinctive. There was always something to fix, something to lift, something to make better—and he'd rarely pass up the chance to spread himself even thinner.

Kaisel ’s voice that drifted through the air was more familiar, and Damien didn't interrupt as the younger man talked about levitating boulders and air-swirling knuckle dusters. He gave a small nod in acknowledgment. Then he turned toward the taller figure in motion, Zavien, and offered a slightly firmer greeting, his own hand meeting the other’s. “Damien. Thanks for letting me join in.” His tone was a little more straightforward, lacking the easy cheer in Zavien’s voice but not unfriendly.

His eyes swept over the mess of planter boxes, boulders, and scattered debris, lingering on the items laid out on the table. One caught his attention immediately—the Starlight Cuff. Damien picked it up, testing the weight in his hand, flexing his wrist as the leather threads glimmered faintly in response. He turned toward a planter box perched precariously on a nearby high ledge. A small motion, and it was as if his fingers extended ten feet, the movement precise and almost surgical. With a Big Reach, he set the box straight, adjusting the soil and flowers inside before stepping back, satisfied with the simple correction. (Is it like Mr Fantastic and he gets elasta-arm? lol)

“This will make things a lot easier,” he offered simply, feeling that a lengthy explanation as to how was not totally necessary. He pointed out the Starblade, maybe even one of his elasta-arms picked it up and held it in front of Zavien for a moment for emphasis. "Can this cut through rock?" He asked hopefully, glancing over at the larger boulders, ones too large and heavy for any one person (without super strength) to move.

Damien picks up the Starlight Cuff bc obviously that's gonna be useful and asks if Zavien's Starblade can melt through rock, a possible solution for the big boulders.

Life can be tough, there's no doubt,
But hope is the thing we can't do without.
Having left Stormbreak after his own difficulties, Zavien couldn't blame Kai for his choices, even if it made him sad to think about another person leaving. However, it gives him another goal to work towards, more motivation to improve the city so people could feel safe staying despite everything that had happened. So there's no judgement in his eyes when he smiles at Kaisel. Sol is equally as excited, trotting forward to invasively sniff the man in search of treats.

Rolling his eyes at his dragon's antics, Zavien turns his attentions instead to the newcomer with gratitude and a nod od his head. "Pleasure to meet you, Damien. We appreciate the help."

Then they're shifting to the work at hand, including the many items and how they might assist. He takes note of Kai's contribution, glancing around at the various things that need to be done and how it might help, then Damien is selecting the cuff, offering forth his sword. Zavien chuckles, accepting the Starblade from the air. "Unfortunately not. It burns stuff easily enough, but it's otherwise a regular sword." If a sword blessed by a goddess can be called as such. Grinning, he stabs it into a weed that sticks out of the dirt. The sword stands proud as a loud sizzling sounds around the blade, burning the invasive plant to a crisp husk. When he pulls it from the soil, only a charred stick remains, easily separating from the ground when he gives it a small tug.

Adding it to his pile of debris, Zavien sets the sword back on the table. "I don't think the three of us should have a problem getting through the day's work." He gestures to the surrounding area and the various needs of the city, listing a few that he'd noted: vines on the fountain and rubble blocking an alley. "Start wherever you feel most comfortable. I'll pop in if you need help." Meanwhile, the men might note a tiny meowing from a nearby tree, a white kitten peeking nervously over a branch at the high drop below. And if they're especially observant, they might hear the voices raising down the street, some altercation over who's to blame for the broken window that was supposed to replace the other broken window.

Round 2:

Utilize your selected items for one of the following tasks! Zavien will join it wherever. Feel free to work together!

1. Find a way to save the kitten stuck in a tree.
2. Free the Pacifist Plaza's fountain of vines.
3. Clear the rubble blocking a nearby alley.

Or

4. Stop a brawl that looks like it's about to start.

Damien
"I never see you at the club!"
Okay? I never see you at the creek
Well, there goes the idea about the sword. Oh well, call it wishful thinking.

As he was given the space to decide where to start, Damien turned his head slightly, the sound of raised voices down the street curling through the mist like something sour. A fight brewing, if he knew the cadence of men’s tempers—and he did. He’d seen the same rhythm around firepits, in the mines, on winter nights when liquor ran out and frustration had nowhere left to go. It itched at him, the futility of it. But his eyes shifted before his legs did, drawn by a smaller, sharper noise: a thin mewl from overhead.

The kitten clung to a branch like a scrap of cloth caught in the wind, its claws dug deep and trembling. Nobody else had looked up yet. Maybe they hadn’t heard, or maybe they just didn’t care. Damien exhaled through his nose, quiet, the decision already made.

He climbed up the lower knots of the tree a few easy feet up before he flexed the cuff on his wrist, feeling the threads of starlight tug in response. The motion stretched out like a phantom limb, longer than any man’s reach had a right to be, and with careful precision he attempted to lift the little thing by its scruff.

Damien tries to help the kitten first using the Starlight Cuff's extra reach.

Got a spark in your heart so strike it
"It is a super cool sword though, isn't it?" Kaisel chirps up helpfully (?) as he watches Bob go for the same shiny starlit blade that had also drawn his eye the last time the boys swapped around items for fun. He makes a few laser-sound effects as he motions a few swipes through the air, demonstrating, though Zav one ups him with an actual demonstration, earning a satisfied grin from Kaisel. "Mega weed whacker," Kaisel confirms, dropping off his leviathan chakram on the table for anyone's use while he fits his knuckle dusters on.

Preparing to see if he could, in fact, punch through a boulder or not, Kaisel is instead drawn towards the sound of a heated discussion bordering on a brawl. Perfect, he loves fighting about as much as he loves talking. You know what stops fights? Starting them. There's surely some good logic there, but Kaisel has a different plan besides coming in swinging, much as that might knock the men away like a pair of bowling pins. "Guys, guys, guys," he says instead with a steady outspread set of his hands towards each of their chests. "Let's not trade words, let's trade—DANCE MOVES!" In demonstration, Kaisel hits the worm inbetween them, using the swing of his fist and the air from it to push him up higher with each roll.

Kaisel tries to break up the fight by starting a dance battle

Life can be tough, there's no doubt,
But hope is the thing we can't do without.
The other men go their separate ways, called by sounds and chivalrous intentions. Smiling to himself, Zavien is content to work on another area that's been calling his attention, near enough that he can help the others if summoned. Snagging his Starblade, he sets to work on the vines that had overgrown the fountain during the city's vacancy period. Similar to his recent demonstration, the sword sizzles and sears a clear path through the flora, encouraging the clingy vines to fall away. It's only as he reaches higher that he starts to have difficulty, his reach proving inadequate for the upper spire of the structure.

Damien manages to gently snag the kitten's scruff, carefully guiding it down into his protective grasp. Unfortunately, its fear isn't immediately alleviated and it initially panics in his hold, earning Damien a shallow scratch to the arm. But it settles in his soothing presence after a moment, tail flicking to cover the jagged wound across its hind leg as it cuddles closer.

To everyone's surprise, Kaisel's suggestion works and the two men can't hide the smiles that break out when the air pushes his dance moves higher than should be possible. They clap and chuckle, shaking their heads and giving their own examples of their 'best moves' despite the lack of music. It's overall goofy and a good way to clear the air of their anger, but the issue hasn't been fixed.

Round 3:

Complete your new task using whatever item(s) might help! Creativity is welcome!

Zavien - Clear the rest of the vines that have gotten tangled over the top of the fountain.
Damien - Help the injured kitten and/or find/make it a home.
Kaisel - Find and replace the window with a new one or give the men something else to focus on.

Got a spark in your heart so strike it
Kaisel claps as he bounces back to his feet, bent low still as he grins and steadily points at each man with wiggling finger guns, finding a rhythm to tap out with his foot. As they each show off their moves he cheers, wrapping them each under an arm in an appreciative hug and sway of newly born amicability. "Excellent! You guys really knocked it out of the park," he beams, hanging his weight between them for a moment longer before rising.

"Alright, so let's get this window fixed." He glances over at them with raised 'brows, like they might have some news or instructions to assist now that the blame game has been jiggled out of them. He scans the area, fingers holding back the glare of sunlight over his eyes. It glints across unbroken glass laid over in the distance, and Kaisel taps one of the men and points. "Look! There, that window's in good shape." And....freely on the ground, definitely doesn't seem like theft, but with so much in repair at the moment and all of it going back to the city, who's to say what's what. "You two work together to bring that new one in and slot it in place. I'll bust this broken one out."

As they step away to do as told, Kaisel punches a few of the more worrisome shards of glass free, the air from his knuckle dusters splintering it without issue onto the stone, where it should be easy to sweep up. Afterwards he wrestles with the broken frame, wrenching it free with a bit of finesse.

Kaisel sends the men to pick up a new window and removes the broken one

Damien
"I never see you at the club!"
Okay? I never see you at the creek
The woodsman caught sight of Kaisel in the corner of his vision, rolling on the ground like a fish out of water—it was either a dance move or a small seizure—but the voices around him were turning from sharp to laughing. Damien blinked once, slow, then looked away. Whatever it was, it was working, and that was enough.

The kitten wriggled against his chest, claws kneading through his shirt as its tail twitched back and forth. He shifted it carefully into the crook of his arm, checking the shallow scratch it had left across his own forearm without much thought. He was used to worse. What pulled his focus instead was the awkward angle of the little creature’s hind leg. The paw hung limp, swelling around a jagged gash that looked fresh enough to sting but not deep enough to kill.

“Easy now,” he murmured, voice low in his throat. The cuff’s glow faded as he peeled a strip from the inside hem of his shirt, twisting the cloth until it tore. He wasn’t a healer, not by a long shot, but he’d set enough snares and seen enough wounds to know that pressure and stillness went a long way. He wrapped the strip clumsily around the leg, snug enough to hold but loose enough not to cut off blood, tying the knot with calloused fingers. The kitten hissed once, then sagged into him, bone-deep tired.

“Better,” Damien said, though it wasn’t meant for anyone but the creature. He glanced up at the street around him, scanning for movement, for signs of anyone who might claim it. Families had drifted back into Stormbreak, bit by bit. Someone had to be missing this ball of fur. His eyes caught on a little cluster of children further down the lane, perched on a doorstep, watching Zavien cut through vines with the sword.

He strode over, crouched in front of them, and held the kitten out gently. “This little one yours?” he asked. The kids’ faces lit up, recognition plain in the sudden wave of chatter. One of them scooped the kitten carefully from his hands, hugging it tight against her chest.

Damien rose, dusted his palms on his trousers, and gave a short nod. That was one thing off the list. His forearm stung from the scratch, his shirt was a strip shorter, but the kitten had found its home again. Good enough.

He turned back toward the others, rolling his sleeve down over the scratch as he moved. Zavien’s sword still hissed through the fountain vines, Kaisel had somehow wrangled two grown men into hauling glass. Damien flexed his fingers once and eyed the next bit of rubble, already falling back into rhythm. There was always another task waiting.

Damien bandages the kitten's leg and finds some kids that will give it a home!

Life can be tough, there's no doubt,
But hope is the thing we can't do without.
Zavien finishes cleaning up the vines in record time, managing to reach up with his sword to dislodge the higher portions along with his trusty side kick blasting a few with his fire. The debris falls away to reveal the fountain, looking almost as good as it did before - save the green water and layer of dust. For now, removing the vines is enough, and he moves to check in on the others, Sol trotting proudly at his side with a charred plant in his mouth.

He spots the 'dance party' first, grinning at the absurdity and loving the interaction all the more for it. Just seeing the people smile again makes all the sweat and exhaustion worth it, however, there still seems to be some difficulty with replacing the window and despite Kaisel's clearing of the extra pieces, the men struggle with the angle of the glass. Grumbles rise and Zavien searches for Damien and the cuff.

The cry of kids draws his attention to the cluster that had gathered to watch him. Newly reunited with their kitten, the injury has been recognized and distress has spread through the group. It pulls him forward, immediately looking to comfort the children. He spots Damien along the way, ideas coming to mind that he gathers quickly.

Waving the man down, he gestures towards where the young dragoon and the bickering men are trying to maneuver the glass. "Damien, let Kai borrow the cuff for a few minutes so they can get the window up. We don't want it breaking like the last one." Zavien smiles, pulling a golden ring from his pocket to hand over. "And here. This will heal whatever you touch. Might make the kitten - and the kids - feel a little better." As much as he wants to help them himself, he needs to work on delegating, and it will be good for them to see Damien again after his heroic actions.

He reluctantly steps away, speaking to both men as he approaches the last bit of work. "I'll be finishing up with the rubble if you guys want to join me when you're done!"

Round 4:

Last round!!

Zavien suggests Kaisel use the Starlight Cuff to help place the mirror while Damien uses the Gold Healing Ring for the kitten. He and Sol move to deal with the remaining rubble.

Once your character has completed their assigned task, help with the last bit of work!

Got a spark in your heart so strike it
How many men does it take to change a window? Three, plus a dance battle and god forged weapons.

He had no idea rebuilding would be so time consuming and soul-sucking. He thought drills and training was vampiric, but struggling with an inanimate object that is in a bad mood is going to desiccate him. His elbows flap as he pushes and shoves and shoulders and twists, and all the while he groans and moans and mutters and curses at the damn frame. He can absolutely see why these two nearly came to blows, he's about to beat up the building soon.

Leaning against the wall so they can all catch a breath and try again, Kaisel's attention lifts at the sound of his name, gaze flicking to Zavien and Damien. He raises his hand in acknowledgement of the idea, and steps over to Damien to take the cuffs, pocketing his knuckle dusters for now. "I hope this does the trick," he admits, but he's more than willing to give whatever might help a shot.

Freshly equipped and just as determined, if not more so, Kaisel and the two men try to fit the window into place again, the cuffs helping him reach further to better guide the slot into place. It shudders into place with a final, relenting click, and the three of them all cheer for a moment.

The two men wander off to more work, likely avoiding windows, and Kaisel would be doing the same. Instead he steps in beside Zavien and using both the cuffs and his re-applied knuckle dusters, helps move and pummel rubble into organized stacks, at least until Damien steps, at which point he'd offer one of the tools if desired.

Kaisel gets the cuffs from Damien and helps set the window! Then he helps Zavien with rubble using his knuckle dusters and the cuffs.

"I never see you at the club!"
Okay? I never see you at the creek
Damien glanced up from the children clustered around the small, white kitten, taking in Zavien’s instructions and the golden glint of the ring. He raised an eyebrow—he’d never seen something like it in action, but the logic was simple enough. He offered the cuff with a small nod toward Kaisel.

Then he took the kitten back, saying, "Don't worry. He'll be all better in no time, kids." He looked down at the ring in his palm for a moment before sliding it onto his own finger. The warmth that bloomed through the metal surprised him slightly, and the kitten twitched, ears flicking as if sensing the change. Damien pressed his hand gently to the little creature’s hind leg where he’d wrapped the makeshift bandage. A soft, golden glow spread through the cloth and fur, and the limp paw slowly straightened, the swelling receding as if the pain itself had been drawn away. The kitten mewed quietly, settling into his chest with a faint purr, and the children around them let out a relieved cheer.

He kept his gaze on the kitten for another moment, ensuring it could stand and move without pain before carefully setting it down beside the children. One of the older kids scooped it up, cradling it carefully as Damien gave a short nod of approval. “See? All better,” Damien said simply, though there was a flicker of pride in his voice and a small smile to accompany it.

Damien hands over the cuff and uses the ring to heal the kitty!

Life can be tough, there's no doubt,
But hope is the thing we can't do without.
Time flies when people are having a good time, and Zavien has to say that he is always having a good time when he gets a chance to help the people of Stormbreak. The others seem to finish their tasks without any unforeseen difficulties. Windows are placed to the sound of comradery and music while kittens are healed to the sound of children's laughter. It makes the Dragoon's smile all the brighter when they join him at the rubble, lifting and bashing their way through the rocks to clear the path. The kids watch from a distance, waving at Damien and gasping with delight when Sol bobs through the air with a stone in his claws, tiny blasts of fire heating the air.

When the sun is starting to set and the sweat has plastered his shirt to his skin, Zavien removes the last piece, officially clearing the path to the alleyway. He drops it a little more dramatically, letting out a deep, exasperated sigh. The grin on his face makes his satisfaction obvious as he moves to address the two men, hands propped proudly on his hips. "Thanks for your help. It certainly went much faster with all the extra muscles." He gives Kai a teasing wink, nodding at Damien in turn.

Throwing out his arms, he announces, "As promised, beers are on me! Come on, they're well deserved." Not letting anyone argue, he led the men off, chuckling and unbothered by the layer of dust on his clothes that was evidence of their hard work, looking forward to the cold drink and bright smiles that would make it all worth it.

Thank you for helping clean up Stormbreak! Enjoy the MP beer and bro time! <3
