Never, not once, had Sohalia ever expected to see Harper again.
And yet here he stood before her. Same curly brown hair. Same dark blue eyes. For a moment, it was like he'd never died, like she could have come to him for advice a thousand times over in moments of need. And, gods, had she needed him in recent years. There was so much to catch up on, so much that she'd wished he'd been around for.
So much that he would miss in the future. A hand fluttered briefly to her stomach, hovering for a moment over her belly before dropping.
It occurred to her that after everything that had happened with Jude, Harper may not wish to see her. He'd never really chosen sides between them, but perhaps death had clarified his feelings about his son's ex-girlfriend in a way that life never could.
She stepped towards him. One step, and then another, as though afraid that his ghost might disappear before she had a chance to say anything, to do anything, to even say goodbye. A thousand emotions rushed through her as tears prickled suddenly behind her eyes.
Her voice, when she spoke, was strangled and timid. "Harper?"
