"Right." Yeah, that definitely brought the mood crashing down. Cam bit their lip, thoughts moving through their head like storm clouds -- dark and indistinct. War was eternal, it seemed, no matter which world you visited.
"Thank you," Cam said, but nervously, wondering if they had imagined that Bastien's praise was faint or if he truly was just trying to encourage them. Maybe it was because he still had war on his mind? Regardless, Cam wasn't about to ask him about it. "Oh -- OK. Sure, I'll stay here and keep working. Uh, see you later."
They turned back to their painting, feeling unsettled by the end of their conversation but hoping they didn't show it.
