Character of the Season
Frail in body but dangerously quick of mind, Nikandr is the sort of character who proves that curiosity can be just as perilous as any weapon. A necromancer, inventor, and problem-solver with more ambition than self-preservation, Niki approaches the world like a puzzle box begging to be opened, even when what’s inside has teeth. Blunt, dry-witted, fiercely independent, and carrying a history best left partially buried, he has a knack for making even failure feel fascinating. Whether he’s raising the dead, moving across Caido to King's End, or experiencing a hangover for the first time, Nikandr brings a wonderfully strange spark to Caido, and we can’t wait to see what trouble his brilliant mind wanders into next.
Congratulations, Niki!

Sah
Sah hadn't intended to stop in Torchline on the way home, but Frog had caught the scent of something in the wind. The little pup was still so shy about asking for things so there was no denying him. The merchant had been delighted to hand the small puppy his own sausage and the small sparks of joy through the bond that resulted made the hybrid melt. Frog was certainly going to grow up spoiled, but after his harsh start to life, the small wolf deserved it.
Finding a quiet spot in the shade, the Wild Thunder lounged against the trunk of a tree with a content puppy on his lap. Beside him in the grass, Lilly and Pad tucked into their own snacks.

send me flying babe, wearing diamonds down
It was a mix of keeping to herself and very much not doing that, that leads Caly once more into the streets of Haulani. She’d simply been a watcher, spotting a few tourists as they parted their way through the crowds between merchants, intrigued enough to watch as a woman plucks a lilac shawl from one of the stalls and meanders on, her fingers deft and swift before the merchant can see that it’s gone. It vanishes swiftly into a bulky pocket without a second thought.
Ah, but Caly notices. And she can’t deny the fact that it was amusing watching the combination of the do gooders and the nefarious go toe to toe on this cool Torchline day. So she drifts away, content to leave them to their game, winding the warm sweater around her thin frame as she steps down the street, watching as someone else takes a seat and appears to have quite the pack of canines along with him. It brings a secondary look from the young woman, her amber gaze dancing over the wolves before landing on the Wild Thunder who lounges against a tree.
Curious, as was her more feline nature given the shift in her skin, the young woman steps closer, flashing him a sunny smile. “Y’look a bit pale to be in Torchline on the regular. Just visiting?” She asks boldly, but the smile on her face makes it an innocent question.

Sah
Sah glanced up as someone began to approach. Looking upwards, he noticed a woman likely a bit younger than himself. Her question made him chuckle and he tilted his head with a returned smile, "That obvious, huh? I guarantee I have more of a tan than most of the others you'll see in Halo, at least." With how much he thrived in cold weather, the Wild Thunder was often the least dressed and most exposed to the sun's rays. It had taken some time, but most had stopped staring when they saw him walking by in a t-shirt during Longheat.
In his lap, Frog curled up tighter, watching the stranger with wary white eyes. Pad also eyed the woman with suspicious before Lilly nipped him lightly to stop him from glaring.
As Sah chuckles, Caly flashes yet another sunny smile; her shoulder rolling in a slight shrug. “Maybe a little.” Comes the playful gilded tease, despite how she perks up a little with the idea of Halo. Her smile curves more into a Cheshire one, some amount of mischief flowing through her as she considers it.
“I’ve never been to Halo.” Comes the honest answer, her amber gaze flitting to all the canines around him. She steps a little closer, bending down into a squat with her hand outstretched to greet them should they wish to come and greet her in turn. “Are these all your companions?” She’s never seen anyone with so many, but with the way they peer at her she has to guess they’re not just any old pets.

Sah
Sah snickered, "Good to know." He ran a hand through Frog's fur, head tilting in thought. "You've never been? It's worth the trip." His lips twitched, "It's a lot colder than Torchline, though." Many seemed to underestimate the vast difference in climate before visiting either region. He'd never expected Torchline to be hot enough to make him feel like he was melting at times. Many visitors found themselves making a merchant's day by buying copious amounts of furs and blankets upon reaching Halo.
"Yes. This is Lilly, Pad, and Frog." Gesturing to each wolf in turn, Sah watched as Lilly took Calypso up on her offer for attention. The silver she-wolf stood up and approached, her ears perked excitedly. Sniffing at the Attuned's fingers, Lilly gave her a quick lick before looking up in a demand for worship.
“That’s what I’ve heard. Maybe I’ll take a trip when it’s not so close to Deepfrost?” Caly muses with a lilting, amusing laugh that slips past her throat. Shrugging in spite of it, she focuses on the companions upon her approach, squatting down to stretch out her hand for their inspection. Lilly is the one that approaches, noted by the introduction as Sah lists out each one, her palm offered for her to sniff before the warmth of her tongue in a lick is all the approval she needs.
Snorting, Caly then kneels in the sand in front of the she-wolf, both hands lifting now to give scratches beneath her jaw and along her cheeks, focusing on all the spaces she knew she liked to be scratched as a tide jaguar and simply assuming it would be similar enough. It would probably feel quite good. “Hi Lilly.” Caly hums as she scratches, a bright sunny smile breaking on her face.

Sah
"You should visit in Flowerbirth, then. That's when small patches of flowers are visible across the tundra. It's stunning." The hints of color across a backdrop of ice and snow almost brought a smile to Sah's face. The colorful flora didn't last long, but they're presence was always a gentle reminder of the new year ahead.
Lilly sank into the Attuned's scratches, nearly melting out of Calypso's hands. Snorting a laugh, Sah shook his head fondly, "I think you found her weak spot. Good luck getting your hands back." Pad let out a huff and curled up into a tight ball, deciding to ignore everything and nap. Frog, however, took a step out of the hybrid's lap and sat down, watching Lilly and Calypso curiously.
“Flowerbirth, huh?” She asks, glancing up briefly from the she-wolf to peer at the Wild Thunder, her amber gaze taking in any notes of his face that would suggest he’s lying to her. Finding nothing but the hidden hint of pride, the attuned settles in to get the best scritches along Lilly’s fur. “Are you gonna be there?” She asks pointedly, focusing on the companion she scratches, as if it was an innocent question and nothing more.
At his announcement of getting her hands back, Caly lets a soft snort leave her as she shakes her head. “Luckily for me, I have two hands.” She says as she spots Frog watching them, extending out the other hand for the smaller of the trio to come and investigate if the young pup wanted to. Though, she does keep up with the scratches for Lilly, because she wasn’t about to test Sah’s theory.

Sah
Sah paused from where he was coaxing Pad over to cuddle. "Well, yes. I live in Halo all year when I'm not traveling." The dark wolf moved closer and sat down, leaning against his bonded's shoulder. There was something to her tone that felt...odd. It was a loaded question, but he wasn't sure to what extent. "Why?" If she simply needed a guide, he'd be happy to show her around.
Frog quietly approached, ducking under Lilly and sniffing Calypso's other hand. He kept some distance, still unsure if he actually wanted the stranger to touch him, but a sniff was probably okay. His big sister was right there in case the lady did something mean.
So focused with both of the companions that approach, she keeps her hand steady for Frog to sniff, but she doesn’t discount the way Sah responds — letting the soft chime of a laugh leave her. “Well, I’d prolly need a guide, won’t I?” She hums, scanning his face to see how he takes it before she continues giving her affectionate scritches to Lilly.
She keeps that other hand extended for Frog just in case he did want to be pet, but she doesn’t force it on him — allowing the companion to decide whether or not he wanted to dive in fully. She continues to give Lilly whole attention, scratching behind her ears and under her jaw and along her neck, all the spaces she imagines feel good.
Question answered, Sah smiled warmly, "Then, I'd be happy to show you around." It was probably best for any newcomer to have a native guide. Even in the warmest of seasons, the icy region was far more dangerous than most. " It finally dawned on him that they had yet to exchange names. "I'm Sah. It's nice to meet you."
Frog took a few more steps forward so that his nose booped the Attuned's hand before he quickly changed his mind and vanished into the nearest shadow. Appearing in the shadow of his bonded, Frog curled back up in Sah's lap. Snickering, the hybrid resumed petting the small pup. "For what it's worth, I think that's one of the first times he's ever touched someone who wasn't me." From what Sah could sense in the bond from Lilly, Calypso gave excellent scratches. No wonder the younger wolf had been tempted.
His warm smile reflects on her face as she nods, continuing to scratch at the she-wolf’s ears and chin and neck when Sah introduces himself. “I’m Calypso, though my friends call me Caly.” She tips a wink toward him, her amusement reflecting in the amber of her gaze and the twist of her smile. “Nice to meet ya too.” And it was, as she’s finding out.
Especially as her attention flits to the pup that makes his grand appearance – coming close enough to boop at her still hand before panic sets in an the young wolf promptly vanishes before reappearing away and back at Sah’s side. A soft chime of a laugh leaves her to see it, shifting her hands so that both can give Lilly attention before she withdraws contently. “Oh, I’m honored, trust me.” She flashes him a beaming smile.
The hybrid raised a brow, at her tone his grin gaining a teasing edge, "As you should be." Resting a hand on Frog's head, Sah flattened his ears, making them go out like birdwings, mostly as an excuse to touch soft puppy ears. "I think even if he had wings, he'd still choose to vanish instead of flying anywhere." Frog shot his bonded a confused look but settled at the soothing affection and reassurance sent his way.
Sah let out a hum, "I completely forgot to ask. How long have you lived in Torchline?" Perhaps nationalities were rather obvious because even if Caly hadn't all but stated hers earlier, she carried herself in the same manner as many torchers did.
Snorting and nodding her head in agreement and shifting her attention from Lilly to Frog as his ears flatten out, it reminds her of the gulls that would come in to land amongst the sandy beaches. But that thought vanishes swiftly with Sah’s next question, her attention flitting back up to meet his golden gaze with her own amber variety, her grin returning bright and full.
“Not too long, but it’s always been my favorite place.” She hums before she gives the canine one last pat before straightening up a bit, brushing a few blonde strands away from her face. “Why, do I look like I belong?” She asks with a teasing tone, flashing him one of those Torchline smiles – superficially happy and content, but with an undercurrent of sharpness that’s only punctuated with the wink she flashes toward him from the eye with the star tattoo.
