The serpent's origin and purpose would remain a mystery for now. Soon enough the source of the geologic groaning approached, vastly majestic in its own corrupted way. A creature not born of Caido. A monster that would have given the granddaddy landshark nightmares. And it faced them as the second guardian of Starfall.

A certain amount of fear and awe were only to be expected.

But they had come prepared to fight. Perhaps not something so gargantuan, but retreat was not yet required, and standing together was. I do not, he rumbled apologetically to the Sword's question. But I will take a turn at healing us after this attack. For now, Sunjata healed and Deimos took his vengeance, and just as they had done in Halo, Hadama backed up the Warden.

He was a pragmatic man, was the Tidebreaker. And when the Mirewyrm opened its maw in an otherwise featureless face to fire at Deimos, Hadama took the opportunity to launch his gravity spikes inside that gaping mouth.

Hadama attacks the Mirewyrm when it opens its mouth with 4 mastered gravity spikes.

Offense
Magic: Pick on Someone Your Own Size (FEAT) | When the ally before him in the posting order is hit, Hadama gains advantage on his next attack against that attacker.
Type: Grey | Rank: Mastered

Magic: Gravity Spike: the user borrows a sliver of the moon's power to summon up to three gravity lances that appear above a target within 60ft. Control is excellent.
Type: Light | Rank: Mastered

Magic: Singularity | Adds additional spike at mastered level on a successful hit when Hadama uses his Gravity Spike.
Type: Light | Rank: Mastered

Defense:
Magic: Temporal Echo | Hadama manifests two illusionary echos of himself that moves slightly out of phase with the original, making him difficult to target. The images has hit points equal to his 1/2 his END, cannot do physical damage to others. Can only be used once per thread.
Type: Grey | Rank: Ugraded

Type: Light | Style: Defensive | Level: Mastered
StArmour | Armour created from owlbear down. When not in use, retracts as a silver serpentine bangle etched with constellation and can be activated telepathically. Blocks physical damage. Has a 2 post cooldown

the descent
Rain answered ruin.

Sunjata ’s conjured storm surged with sudden purpose. Fat droplets hissed as they struck the Mirewyrm’s void-warped hide, sizzling like oil on fire. The air screamed next.

Deimos 's retaliation arrived like a cyclone of vengeance, honed to the finest edge of his mastery. The tunnel howled with his fury as walls of pressurized air collapsed inward, pinning the Mirewyrm in place just as Hadama ’s gravity spikes lanced through the tunnel, piercing directly into the beast’s still-open maw. The spikes struck true, lodging deep within the spiral throat, and the Mirewyrm buckled, reeling back in a shriek that had no voice—just a tremor in reality itself.

Its body spasmed, scales sloughing off in patches, void glyphs stuttering and fading along its sides. It tried to rise, but its bulk trembled, collapsing momentarily under the onslaught. Wounded. Reeling. Nearly spent.

But not slain.

The Mirewyrm surged backward, slamming its body into the tunnel wall to break the remaining spikes loose. It didn’t stay to fight—not now. No berserker beast, it understood its own strengths, understood when it needed to disappear and wait. With a groan like the shattering of mountains, the creature slammed its head downward, burrowing again into the violet stone, dragging itself into the earth with all the weight of a collapsing cathedral.

And the island reacted.

The tunnel walls screamed as the Mirewyrm’s passage collapsed them, shifting the very architecture of the Descent. Tremors split through the rock in jagged veins, and boulders the size of wagons sheared free from the ceiling. One shattered where Deimos had stood only seconds before, narrowly avoiding the Sword. Another smashed the fungal growths along the walls, plunging half the tunnel into shadow. More boulders fell, one slamming against the Tidebreaker and the other against the Flood as the cavern began to buckle around them.

Welcome to the Key Quest. This is a hard Level 15 key Quest.

Your randomly assigned posting order is Sunjata, Deimos, then Hadama. You have 24 hrs to reply.

Sunjata HP: 825/1125
Deimos HP: 1012.50/1275
Hadama HP: 620/800 **StArmour used

Mirewyrm: 131.75/1153

Mirewyrm: The Mirewyrm is a colossal void entity, vaguely serpentine and dragonlike, that tunnels through stone as though the rock were liquid. Its body is plated in black, semi-metallic scales that shimmer with deep-space reflections, constantly shifting and rearranging like something unfinished. It has no eyes, and its mouth opens sideways in a jagged, spiral maw—a gateway rather than a mouth, lined not with teeth, but with coiling tendrils of voidlight and gravity.

Remember to include a summary at the bottom of your post with all action taken. If weapons/upgrades/abilities/items/shifts/etc are used, please include their desc. from your profile at the bottom of your post as well.

REMEMBER: KQs are rewarding but dangerous. They may cause death and/or permanent changes to your characters.

He doesn’t expect it to work as well as it does — probably because in his experience (ahem, lightning rods) things don’t tend to always work in his favor. And while the attacks and healing have done their job, his luck runs out then. The tunnel shakes, tremors making it hard for him to stay on his feet. But it’s the rocks and boulders falling that really deal the damage, crashing into him with a grunt of pain he tries to block from sharing across the attuned bond.

Gritting his teeth and ensuring he still has a hold on the box containing the lily, he moves toward the edge where the beast tunnels and burrows down. I have a shield, but we’re gonna need some kind of solid ground. He doesn’t mean to hiss it through the bond, but the pain makes it inevitable as he finally takes his turn to try and strike.

Choosing his longest reaching ability, the Flood sends it down the hole created by the Mirewyrm, hoping it will find it within.

Sunjata moves toward the hole and sends his Riptide down it, hoping it’ll hit the Mirewyrm in its retreat!

Magic: Riptide | Creates an explosive wave that travels 60ft. Allies in the radius are uneffected, and enemies on the ground within 15 feet are knocked down.
Type: Dark | Rank: Mastered

He’s still wearing the crystal;

Type: Grey | Style: Defensive | Level: Mastered
Family Pheromone | A dark stone on a chain mined from Starfall. When worn on the island, causes all flora/fauna to treat the wearer like a Friend of the Family.

and the only solution was to stand and fight
The turn of events might’ve made him snort in an altogether different situation – in this one, however, he narrowed his eyes into the cavernous void, and then opted for stability amidst the falling rocks. There was no need for them to be taking extra damage for something preventable – with his enchantments, at least. I can try to stabilize this area and towards the path.

And maybe while he did that, much like the Flood, Hadama could find a way to bombard down the length of the newly forged tunnel.

Calling upon his incantations again, the Sword opted to spread his Mastered Earth into their vicinity, striving to maintain strength, steadiness, and solidity through the rocky abyss – from their portions around and towards the rampaged and ravaged trail.

--

Deimos uses his Mastered Earth to try and stabilize their area, and the mirewyrm’s new path.

They were far more successful than Hadama had anticipated, even after the events in Halo. The combined efforts of two demigods and the Resurrected Sword were significant against the might of the Void, and it gave the Tidebreaker a moment to consider future tactics that they might employ. But the Mirewyrm was not dead yet, even if it was shocked into flight.

And even its retreat was dangerous as it turned the caverns around them into weapons. His Echoes could not draw fire from collateral damage and as the stones slammed down he stumbled, a grunt of pain escaping. Like the others, he tamped down his output into the Attuned Bond, staring thoughtfully at the retreating bulk of mountainous armor. Thanks, he murmured through the wounds as Deimos grasped the unstable terrain and brought his magic to bear upon it. Convenient of it, to remove its bulk from our path forward.

Reaching deep, he drew upon his deep well of lunar magic and brought the cool, cleansing light of the moon into the depths of Starfall to heal his allies while hopefully slowing the Mirewyrm's retreat.

And then he followed it with a quartet of gravity spikes into the fleeing Wyrm's body. Perhaps it could be overkill if all attacks struck, but he was not taking chances at this point in the conflict.

Hadama heals the team with his Turn the Tide (and debuffs the Mirewyrm) AND attacks the Mirewyrm with 4 mastered gravity spikes using his Time Dilation Feat to use 2 actions this round.

Offense
Magic: Time Dilation (FEAT) | Twice per combat (e.g. KQs, PQ+s, PVP) Hadama may use two actions in one turn.
Type: Light | Rank: Mastered

Magic: Turn the Tide | Can cause a moonlit mist to rise in a 30 ft radius that heals allies while causing enemies to roll with disadvantage for one round. Has a 2 post cool-down between uses.
Type: Light | Rank: Mastered

Magic: Gravity Spike: the user borrows a sliver of the moon's power to summon up to three gravity lances that appear above a target within 60ft. Control is excellent.

the descent
The darkness pulsed.

Whatever space remained untouched in the tunnel dimmed further, as if even the memory of light was being scraped away. Somewhere beneath them, Sunjata ’s attack vanished into the black, swallowed whole. Whether it hit or missed, they could not say—but the Mirewyrm gave no further cry, no tremor of pain or dying shudder. It had vanished, deeper into the veins of the world.

Deimos 's magic surged outward, pressing through the tremors to brace the trembling stone. His magic carved invisible anchors into the walls and floor, and though not absolute, it was enough—for now. Around them, the worst of the ceiling held. But the Descent was vast, breathing and shifting like a living thing, and every motion was a warning that they could not rely on it for long.

Moonlight followed. Gentle, ethereal, unnatural in this place, and all the more welcome for it. Hadama ’s healing washed over the three, closing wounds, soothing bruises, dulling the sharp edges of pain. The tide receded just in time for another wave to crash.

With a deep, sucking groan, the crevices split wide again—not to give passage, but to breathe.

The Mirewyrm exhaled.

A thick, toxic vapor bled from the cracks—slow at first, like mist, before rushing out in a dense, violet fog. The gas hugged the ground, rose along the walls, and within seconds, visibility dropped to mere feet. Even the bioluminescence flickered, overwhelmed by the choking haze.

The case masks would protect the trio's lungs, but their eyes were not spared. The air grew heavy, syrupy, wrong, like trying to wade through memory and failure. Then the cavern groaned again.

Stone cracked. A minor landslide sheared from above, rocks pelting down with a teeth-rattling roar. A boulder the size of a man exploded beside Hadama, fragments peppering his side. A jagged edge scraped past Deimos 's shoulder. One struck the edge of the box in Sunjata 's arms, spinning it violently—but miraculously, it remained sealed.

All around them, the world shifted like an animal turning in its sleep.

And the Mirewyrm, somewhere deep beneath their feet, waited.

With no way to know if the riptide hits, there’s another pulse of tremoring even as the ground begins to stabilize from when Deimos utilizes his magic. Healing comes next, a breath of fresh air, until there isn’t anymore. Gas begins to pour in, burning at his eyes, and Sunjata hisses even as he offers a quiet thanks to Hadama for the healing and Deimos for the stability. Thanks.

But then the walls move again, rocks pelting toward them with another heavy groan, colliding with the corner of the box that Sunjata tries so desperately to not get destroyed. Reaching for it to tuck it in tight against him, he grits his jaw and inhales a sharp breath through the gas mask. Let’s keep going, I guess. Comes the quiet remark, blinking against the burning of his gaze as he conjures more water around them hoping it’ll absorb some of the gasses and carefully tries to descend further.

Sunjata uses his water magic to try and absorb some of the gasses around them but otherwise continues to move carefully further down the descent.

Gods this was a maddening little enterprise. Altering and maneuvering crevasses, changing caves, and then the gas to follow made his jaw clench once more, eyes narrowing as the hunt shifted again. I will try to clear everything he mentioned, striving to let go of the rampant frustrations beginning to build. Especially along his gaze. Likely all they needed was one more hit – but he had to give it to the wyrm; at least it was clever.

Drawing back into his Mastered Air, the Sword swept it along the area – trying to ensure the poisonous, toxic, and heinous fumes faded away from them – and perhaps any rocks could yield elsewhere too, if they were descending towards their group once more.

Deimos tries to clear the toxic vapor and move any falling rocks away from the group with his Mastered Air, and follows Sunjata.

He nodded at Sunjata's thanks, accepting it silently and then shifted to the side in an attempt to avoid the crash of rocks from above. He flinched away from the spray of stones that peppered his hide as he tried to avoid the worst of the landslide, but at least this time the pain was more inconvenient than disabling.

And then the Mirewyrm breathed.

Deimos's gas masks proved to be a timely gift, though their lenses were not as air tight as they might have hoped. Hadama adjusted the Varylens that he had placed in one of the mask's sockets, squinting to peer through it in case the toxins brought with them illusions. Seeing Sunjata take another glancing blow, the Tidebreaker moved up to try and protect the Flood and the Lily in his arms as they stalked their gargantuan prey along the path that it fled down.

Hadama attempts to look through his Varylens to see the truth of their surroundings and defends Sunjata and the Lily as they hunt the Mirewyrm along the trail it's left behind it.

the descent
Deimos ’s wind surged forth once again, slicing through the violet fog with surgical precision. The toxic gas peeled back from their immediate vicinity, revealing jagged walls slick with sweat-like condensation and the hollow remnants of bioluminescent fungi that had begun to wither under the exposure. Breathing room. Sightlines. But it came at a cost.

The ground beneath them groaned in protest as his focus shifted. With the wards pulled back, the stone lost its grip, and Starfall’s wound began to move again.

Sunjata ’s conjured water shimmered through the haze, but the gas clung too thick, too heavy, as if the very air resisted being cleansed. The moisture dampened the worst of it, but it did not clear—and the fog’s stinging bite remained, blurring the edges of vision and logic both.

Hadama ’s Varylens revealed no hallucinations or illusions, no phantoms—but the Mirewyrm’s absence made the tunnel feel colder. Emptier. And that, perhaps, was worse.

Then came the groan.
Low. Deafening. Tactile.

The earth vibrated beneath their feet before the full force of the Mirewyrm’s body slammed into the tunnel wall, somewhere just out of sight. The impact cracked the world. A faultline shuddered down the cavern, walls trembling, ceiling crumbling.

And then the stone came down. a nat 100's worth of stone

Boulders the size of heads and torsos peeled from the ceiling like fruit from a rotting tree. They crashed down in uneven waves, filling the air again with dust and grit, sharp as glass and thick as soup. Even now, the tunnel behind them began to close, stone pouring in to barricade the creature’s retreat like a severed artery scabbing over.

But it wasn’t just a defense.

It was an attack.

A slab of rock larger than a wagon wheel hurtled toward them, spinning through the air like a god’s coin toss. Shards exploded outward, peppering the group, biting into armor and magic like teeth.

And behind it, down the tunnel’s twisted throat, the Mirewyrm kept crawling.

Vanishing.

Burying itself in Starfall’s guts—closer to whatever heart pulsed deep beneath the surface.

There’s nothing like the momentary blip of hope as it begins its immediate crash. The air is pushed back just enough to get some semblance of sight before it pours back in, eyes tearing up again. He hisses, seeing his magically conjured water lose the fight with the heavy gasses.

And then it feels like the world groans. Vibrating and immediately causing Sunjata to try and duck, to use his body as some kind of shield for the lily still held within his hands in its box. Without being able to see, Sunjata doesn’t know where the slam has come from, what he does know is that the rocks begin to tumble down again.

Not quick enough to do much of anything, Sunjata can’t help but to take it as much as he could, feeling as the shards pierce his skin, the iron tang of blood filling the air as he tries to regain some semblance of footing. Fucking hell. Sunjata curses, sucking in a breath and hunching for a moment. Here— He grits out, tugging that thread of his healing magic again as rain begins to pour upon him and Deimos and Hadama.

Sunjata uses his last slot of his healing magic on them all! And damages any foes in the vicinity (if there are any).

Magic: Let it Rain | Can cause rain to fall in a 30 ft radius that heals allies while damaging enemies. May be used two times per thread, with a two post cooldown.

and the only solution was to stand and fight
He couldn’t do both Air and Earth without losing something in the crossfire; and he gave an inward growl of frustration, and pain, as the assaults seethed and pummeled against them. With gratitude extended towards Sunjata once more for the healing, the long and short of it was that they were running out of opportunities. They’d eventually be buried in all the rubble and ruin, with nothing to show for it save for initial hopes and dashed pursuits. I am going to try and stabilize it again – but I will try to open a hole nearby too. Hadama, if you can fire your gravity spikes into it…

Maybe something could be done. Maybe something could be finished, before they were.

Doing exactly as he said, he spread his Mastered Earth components into the land again. Working to solidify their area and avoid another maelstrom of catastrophe and terror, he snagged at the stone, at the loam, at the soil nearby as well – aiming to create an area for the Tidebreaker to utilize. And that was only if the wyrm was in that space.

--

Deimos uses his Mastered Earth to stabilize the area, and open a hole in the ground nearby so Hadama might be able to hit the wyrm.

Also using Halo’s regional ability to ignore the gas/constantly shifting cave.

Halo has hardened you against her weather and her terrain. Once per PQ/PQ+/KQ/Drop, you can ignore an environmental effect that would otherwise hinder you (rough terrain, cold, wind, etc). (In order to use this ability, you must put a clear note in the bottom of your post immediately following the effect you want to ignore).

Earth Manipulation: Can create and control the earth. Must be within a 30ft radius.
Type: Grey | Rank: Mastered

Type: Light | Style: Other | Level: Mastered
Gambler's Gloves | A pair of supple leather gloves, seemingly innocuous. Doubles the user's Luck stat.

Like Sunjata, Hadama felt a moment of optimism as the air cleared and they began to move forward again. But the very earth was turned against them on the intruding island and that hope was quickly dashed as rocks fell around them once more, the Wyrm's tantrum bringing what felt like half of the island down upon them.

This time he could not stop the low cry of pain that escaped as he was pummeled by stone, but he would not abandon his allies just yet. Shrugging off what he could of the injuries that sluiced his skin with crimson, he steadied himself as Sunjata's soothing rain fell around them, and he sent a pulse of gratitude through the Bond.

Deimos offered direction, his earth magic the only thing that they could rely on for safety as the Wyrm continued its retreat, and Hadama indicated his acquiescence. If this does not work, we may need to retreat and try again later. Better prepared, he warned his companions. He had promises of his own to keep, and the other leaders had responsibilities as well. A minor setback was better than a major one at this juncture.

But for now he narrowed his eyes and forged ahead, striding to the limits of his pace as he grasped for moonlight to burn the miasma back for a few precious seconds while he launched an assault down the Mirewyrm's retreat

the descent
Sunjata 's rain hissed softly as it fell—strangely gentle amid the ruin. It washed the worst of the blood from cracked skin and splintered armour, soothing bruises, stitching skin, buying them precious seconds to breathe. Around them, the cavern floor hardened beneath Deimos ’s command, and the stone obeyed—for now. His magic carved open the earth with precise fury, a fresh scar splitting the stone ahead to expose the depths where the Mirewyrm had tunneled through.

Hadama’s moonlight surged forward, casting stark white radiance into the newly made wound.

But the tunnel was empty.

Black as pitch. The light did not fall on void-raked scales or glittering runes or that yawning spiral maw. Only rough, torn earth and the lingering stink of void corruption remained. So it was that Hadama 's spikes lanced against nothing but stale air.

Lurking just beyond reach, somewhere deeper in the wound of the world. The cavern pressed in around them like lungs trying to exhale. The air grew colder. Not from gas or magic—but from tension. As if the wyrm was waiting.

And then the stone screamed.

A thunderous, full-bodied tremor reverberated through the ground as the Mirewyrm slammed its body againIt was taunting them. Herding them. Or maybe just angry.

Chunks of the ceiling gave way again.

A roar of falling stone burst down in chaotic sheets. Shards and slabs rained around the trio, some small enough to dodge, others massive enough to kill. One struck Hadama, clinking sharply off his armour. Another caught the edge of Sunjata’s shoulder, glancing off with enough force to stagger him. Only Deimos was able to dodge the debris once more.

The path was closing.

Welcome to the Key Quest. This is a hard Level 15 key Quest.

Your randomly assigned posting order is Sunjata, Deimos, then Hadama. You have 24 hrs to reply.

Sunjata HP: 252.5/1125
Deimos HP: 740/1275
Hadama HP: 302.5/800 **StArmour Used
