Character of the Season
Frail in body but dangerously quick of mind, Nikandr is the sort of character who proves that curiosity can be just as perilous as any weapon. A necromancer, inventor, and problem-solver with more ambition than self-preservation, Niki approaches the world like a puzzle box begging to be opened, even when what’s inside has teeth. Blunt, dry-witted, fiercely independent, and carrying a history best left partially buried, he has a knack for making even failure feel fascinating. Whether he’s raising the dead, moving across Caido to King's End, or experiencing a hangover for the first time, Nikandr brings a wonderfully strange spark to Caido, and we can’t wait to see what trouble his brilliant mind wanders into next.
Congratulations, Niki!

An anonymous delivery is left for Kaisel. Within is a keychain for his backpack. The keychain features a piece of paving stone from his childhood home in Stormbreak, along with one of Stormbreak's coins from his year of birth.
Figured you might want to carry a little piece of home with you. The stone’s from your front walk, and the coin’s from the year you were born. I thought that part might make you smile. Or roll your eyes. Either works; it's just important to remember where you came from, especially when you don't live there anymore.
The knock on his door is just enough to catch his attention, but by the time he stumbles over, having had to grab some pants first and nearly eating shit while trying to hop into them, no one's there. All that awaits is a small, unassuming parcel. He swoops it up like a prize, because who doesn't love a package? Especially a surprise one outside your birthday or holidays, and one that's free. It's even better than finding money your forgot about in your pocket.
He tears it open with the wild abandon of curious glee, but it all stills when the item and the note inside are revealed. It's the kind of quiet that comes when something important lands in your hands, heavy in all the right ways. For a moment he just bows his head over it, turning the keychain over and over like he’s memorizing it by feel alone. For someone who’s only ever known one home, who loved that home—full of family, laughter, and love every single day—this strange and empty place has been more unsettling and lonely than he'd ever admit to. He misses Stormbreak, and his family, and some days he considers how easy it'd be to just call it quits on this crazy choice and move back. Something about the hardship makes it feel like it's working though.
That's why this gift is the best kind of gut punch. The stone, the coin—home.
Kaisel bolts into the next room, snatching up his backpack and clipping the keychain to it like it’s a medal. He’s already grinning, already planning to write his parents tonight to thank them for the reminder. Stormbreak might feel far away, but… he’ll always carry it with him now.
