Character of the Season
Frail in body but dangerously quick of mind, Nikandr is the sort of character who proves that curiosity can be just as perilous as any weapon. A necromancer, inventor, and problem-solver with more ambition than self-preservation, Niki approaches the world like a puzzle box begging to be opened, even when what’s inside has teeth. Blunt, dry-witted, fiercely independent, and carrying a history best left partially buried, he has a knack for making even failure feel fascinating. Whether he’s raising the dead, moving across Caido to King's End, or experiencing a hangover for the first time, Nikandr brings a wonderfully strange spark to Caido, and we can’t wait to see what trouble his brilliant mind wanders into next.
Congratulations, Niki!

As intended, Zavien's leg hooked Maea's, sending her toppling towards the ground in her shift. It had his mouth dropping open in sudden realization, horror and regret coating his face in a pale pink. "Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry. I should have thought more about the landing." He was then scrambling to his feet, offering a hand to help her stand. Other than a small groan, she appeared to be in good spirits still, and he didn't feel any fire licking his hair, so that was a good sign.
Laughing lightly, he nodded his head in agreeance to her request, flattered by her words. "I'll do my best to remind you next time. Here, let me heal you." Only once she gave a subtle consent would he reach forward, tapping his golden ring to emit a small healing light over her, taking away the ache and hopefully preventing the development of any bruises. Wincing, he ran a nervous hand through his hair. "Sorry. I didn't mean to actually hurt you."
Waking from the dream Witnessing the smoke that's rolling in
His concern was touching, if not entirely necessary. But she let him fuss for a bit with a patient smile, accepting the healing when offered, and eventually reached for her gown. "It's alright, I'm quite sturdy despite what it looks like," she reassured him, as she pulled the garment over her head. "Don't they say that the cuts of a dull blade leave worse scars? If anything, I'm grateful to you for not going easy on me."
Slipping the cuff from her arm, Maea offered it back to him with only the briefest pang of regret. "That's a really nice piece of magic. Thank you for allowing me to try it!" She would have to think about getting something like it for herself, perhaps with a bit extra range to compensate for her limited reach.
"What will you be doing now?" If he was leaving then so be it. If not, though, she would be more than happy to join him for a while longer. The friction her past actions had added between them was something she regretted deeply; if given half a chance to keep making amends, Maea wouldn't hesitate to accept.

Having seen Maea's power, Zavien gave a quiet laugh and knowing smile. "I believe it." Because she was more than just a small, pale Ancient. Like most people in Caido, she was more than she seemed, hidden strengths and magics making her a formidable opponent.
He accepted the cuff with a gentle nod, an appreciative grin on his face as he slipped it back onto his wrist. "No, thank you for helping me." The nerves and apprehension seemed to have dissipated throughout their spar, the physical activity always managing to tell him more about a person than plain conversation. Maea's response helped reassure him that she wasn't as hotheaded at she'd first appeared, letting blows graze off without a single complaint or desire for retribution.
Sol gave a playful chirp as he dove for the will-o-wisp again, Zavien glancing towards them before turning back to Maea. "I didn't have any particular plans for the moment. What about you?"

A pulse of delight through the bond drew her gaze out across the hot springs, to watch as Shii darted gleefully out of Sol's reach, raced around a stone pillar and tried to tag the dragon's tail in return. Maea's expression sobered as her question was returned, a subtle look of concern drawing premature lines around her eyes.
"I've been searching for a lily," she replied. "Liam... is infected. And while it's perhaps not as urgent as before, with the Family gone and unable to influence him, I'd still like the option of curing him. If it ever becomes a problem." Reaching up to undo her hair so that she could comb through the tangles with her fingers, she raised a brow lightly at Zavien. "I wouldn't mind some company, if you want to join."

Where there's life there's hope.
Sol squealed a surprised chirp as the will-o-wisp suddenly appeared behind him, turning to renew the chase while Zavien's eyes widened at Maea's revelation. He'd known that they knew each other, although how she'd discovered Liam's infected status was a mystery to him. Running a hand through his hair, he nodded in slow understanding. "I only recently realized he was infected. It wasn't something I'd been expecting to find now that the Family's gone..." It meant that he must have missed the crucial point of Liam's infection, and although they might not be there to influence him anymore, Zavien didn't know what that meant for the ex-Dragoon.
"I'd be more than happy to help you look." He'd been looking for flowers himself, aware that there were more people and places that still needed cleansing. Looking deeper into the cavern, Zavien adjusted his sweat-slick shirt. "Should we head farther in?"
