Iskra

Melita had been game enough to pick him up and venture here to greet Ludo. This time he'd not be calling the god anywhere cold, in fact as far the opposite as he could, just grateful it's not yet Longheat. The trip here had been a nice sighting of various bony structures, like whalewatching, but for corpses long since rotted, and some not at all looking like whales.

"I never met my dad," he reminds her as they hike from the ship to the shrine, and his features crease in with the thought. "I know about him though, and I think I get my fire magic from him. Lightning from my mom." Might not work exactly like that, but it's comforting to think that his father is present with him like that, a show of force that's been waiting for him to do something with it.

Unlike with Ampere, sadness doesn't bubble up at the thought of his father. Just an empty sort of longing, and some inescapable need to make him proud, even if he's nothing more than a ghost now. This feels like it could be a step in the right direction.

Crouching at the shrine, Iskra uses his sleeve to brush away the gathered sand that's piled up, feeling much like an archeologist unearthing ancient bones. Once it's clean as one could expect in a sea of sand, he pulls a few offerings from his pockets and sets them down. A handful of chocolates with marshmallow filling inside to start. Then a pair of fake teeth with elongated canines, enchanted with his maker's whimsy to drip fake blood once in a while from the edges. Lastly, a wood-carved ring that looks like a skeleton hand curling in on itself.

Goose tries to sneak a chocolate when Iskra's bent around to his pocket, but he spies the glutton and scolds him beneath his breath, chasing the dog back with a flap of his hands. "Go bother Fangorn," he insists, turning back around to the task at hand. "Ludo," he murmurs, once Mel has made her offerings. "I seek your assistance becoming stronger. A shield to keep back fire, in honor of my father. He was brave and strong and protected many, and I'd like to follow in his footsteps."

Iskra is praying to Ludo for a fire shield!

Gaucho | A shield that blocks fire attacks, decorated with engravings depicting antlers and suns that flare when struck.

Melita will be posting to be his rolling buddy.

Melita had always been careful in discussions around family members. Her own experiences were a bit tainted, after all, between horrendous deaths and abandonment, so she bit her tongue when she wondered if he was better off not knowing his father. Instead of snarling at her own trauma, she nodded along, pondering over things inherited and things simply snagged from the world around them. “That’s cool though,” she relented after a moment, beginning to pile on her own offerings – several caramels, and some Ludo-shaped cupcakes she’d bribed the baker to try. “That you have something to know and share with him.” She’d prefer that over desertion. There was imagination and stories inhabited in tales of old; comforting, rather than unrelenting derision and ruthlessness.

She eyed the fake teeth, because those looked fun and she’d like some for herself just to be obnoxious; she ensured the offerings were placed well instead, then took her place nearby, there to ensure things went…well. Or better, than perhaps, things could potentially go with heralds and Abandoned.

Melita places her offerings down for Ludo and stands nearby.

LUDO
"OH MY GOD," Ludo announces - or rather, one of the many skulls in the shrine click-clacks its jaws and the herald's voice comes out.

"HOW MANY TIMES.

PUT
THE
CANDY
IN
MY
MOUTH."

The skull remains poised there with its gob open, though of course Ludo's voice still rings out of it, perfectly enunciated. "Put the teeth in my mouth too, please," it adds, before its empty eye sockets turn on Melita.

"You a sugar mama for this one now?" it asks. "I never see him here without you to pray. Almost like he's using you for your connections." Skulls don't have eyebrows, but they bounce leadingly anyway. "Whatever, though. Fire? I can do fire. C'mere - no, closer. Here's what we're gonna do."

Iskra has received a quest from Ludo!

He must:

1. Complete a thread selecting a material for the shield (wood, metal, bone, whatever youl like!) and crafting/shaping it yourself.
2. Complete a training thread whilst holding the shield. (You can also use a weapon as well, that's fine!)
3. Complete a thread hiking through The Climb with the shield on your back, exposing it to the soot and heat of the region. Setting it on fire optional.
4. Complete a thread building a bonfire and leaping through the flames with the shield on your person.

Iskra

He doesn't pry about her family, and she has never offered much. His own, she knows to some degree, but he can't hold back their importance to him even with them gone and scattered (so many siblings lost to the breeze).

With offerings and prayers made though, Iskra's attention is on the shrine, anticipation strumming through him like a last chord played into silence. It's why when the skull nearby bugles its complaint, sharp surprise skitters up his spine and prickles like water over his scalp. Breathless with the admonishment, he is still for a moment, only his eyes sliding towards the animated jaw. Amusement soon breaks though, a disbelieving laugh slipping loose even as Iskra hurriedly reaches down to swipe up some of the candies on display. "Sorry! This is the first I've heard," he manages around the humor.

He lobs one towards the open skull, well practiced with tossing scraps to Goose after all these years, and feeling marginally strange that he's drawn that parallel with a powerful herald of death. Before he can toss a second one (and good thing too, because Goose has perked up at sailing treats), leaving an opening for Mel to feed the diety should she so desire, he reaches back to nab the fake fangs. "Oh, uh, here you go," he tells Ludo as he crouches down before the skull, tilting his head as he pops the bleeding set of teeth in over the old and dusty ones. "Perfect," he announces, quickly depositing the rest of the candy in his hand like a slot machine declaring a winner, but in reverse.

Stepping back a bit, not convinced he might not be bit, Iskra's gaze flicks back to Mel as she's addressed. Sugar momma he wonders with a rise of his 'brows to match the unseen bony ones. "Wha—" he starts in response, blush creeping hot and red up his neck. "N-no, it's not like that!" He tries to insist, mortified, but Ludo no longer seems to care and at the beckoning of the trickster he cautiously gets closer and closer. Stooping with his arms around his knees before the skull, Iskra listens to the tasks, nodding as he takes mental note of them.

Melita, not jumping back as the skulls began to echo and announce, grew all the more amused, her brightened smile only unfurling further as she did as she was commanded. Popping several candies into the bony jaws, and watching the entire display, she didn’t expect the eye sockets to round back on her. Maybe in her ignorance she thought herself free of any impending wrath.

Her own gaze widened, but then narrowed to a fixture at Iskra’s proclamation and blush, figuring she’d play along. Any serious conversation about it could happen later. “I didn’t think so, but I’ll look into it. Good food for thought,” she smiled and winked on her promise, before shuffling back so the tasks could be heard – mind already whirling on other expectations and certainties, before they could depart.
