Tryin' to wash away all the blood I've spilt
This lust is a burden that we both share
Spring had come to the Greatwood at last, bringing with it shades of green that hadn't been seen in the forest for months.

Liam walked along beneath the Crimson Cataract, the one lingering bit of red in the woods, carrying a bundle of pelts over one shoulder and a basket of smoulder blossoms nestled in the crook of his other elbow. He had his hands full, certainly, but it would be well worth it once he'd completed his quest. In truth, he'd never meant to take this long to complete it - he'd hoped to have a gift for Maea to help her survive the bitterly cold winter - but that was neither here nor there. At least now, she would have something to help her going forward.

Movement in the lingering detritus from the colder seasons past caught the soldier's gaze. Two small dragons wrestled in the broken leaves. One was green, like the branches far above her head; the other was reddish-brown, not unlike the autumn leaves he pounced upon. Liam shook his head at the dragons' antics. The pair were inseparable - both from each other and from him - and had rapidly claimed a place in his heart right beside Maea. He marveled, sometimes, at just how much one's heart could expand, just how much love one could hold. He'd never thought that he'd fall in love again, or that he'd have more young ones to look after, and yet... look at him now.

Arriving at their destination, the dragonlings made their way back to their bonded. Prim chirped and trilled as she bounded forth; her brother, Vale, followed at a steadier pace. Both were excited to see their first god, intrigued by the mental image and emotions that Liam had painted for them. For his part, Liam was nervous. He hoped very much that the item he hoped to receive would live up to his expectations.

Laying the pelts and blossoms at his feet, he looked up at the shrine. "Frey, I have returned," he said seriously. "I brought the pelts and the blossoms." Then, remembering something, he pulled a packet of wildflower seeds from his pocket and lay it on ground. "Sorry I don't have more to offer - but my hands were full with the pelts. I hope this is okay."

Liam is turning in his quest received here: we could stay in this moment

1. Complete a thread hunting an Ursur and harvesting its fur.
[SE] and take all that I could bring forth | Hunted an Ursur and harvested its fur with Noah.

2. Complete a thread hunting a luxere and harvesting its pelt.
we seem to invent ourselves in places left unknown | Hunted a luxere and harvested its pelt with Theea.

3. Complete a thread keeping Maea warm in a non-traditional way - i.e. no fire or sweaters or blankets, think outside the box!
[Training] all I ever desired is here with me | Trained with Maea, keeping her warm through physical movement.

4. Complete a thread collecting smoulder blossoms from The Climb. Be careful not to get burnt![SE] So many things I need to say to you | Collected smoulder blossoms from the Climb with Maea.

Frey
"Any offering to nature is more than adequate. The land appreciates it either way." Frey's voice seems to warble from the Crimson Cataract directly, and as Liam watches, he'll see streamers of water and scarlet algae wisp away from the main body of it to form into something resembling the deity before him. At the same time, the pelts and smoulder blossoms also rise up into the air, beginning to seamlessly knit themselves together as if being crafted by some invisible seamstress.

"With luck the season will not be cold enough to need such a thing," they continue as the Midnight Mantle begins to form before his eyes. While they wait, Frey will take the wildflower seeds (some already beginning to sprout) to splay them across the earth with a watery hand, allowing them to take root and grow. "The bees will love these," they murmur, straightening up just as the coat is completed, hovering for Liam to take.

Liam has completed his quest and receives the following:

Type: Light | Style: Other | Level: Basic
Midnight Mantle | This black, fur-lined leather coat can sustain an Ancient in the cold for 2 IC posts per thread.

Frey's voice warbling out from the crimson waters overhead shouldn't have surprised Liam, but he started as rivulets began to warp and form into the shape of his chosen deity anyway. Recognizing the herald, Liam bowed his head reverently. "Thank you," he said, his deep voice a rumble against the trickling water above.

The pelts and blossoms rose into the air, weaving together into a garment that Liam could only describe as being better than he'd ever envisioned. While the magic of the deity worked, wildflowers began to spring up where Frey had spread the seeds that Liam had brought. The soldier watched, intrigued, and smiled at the mention of bees. "I do hope so," he replied, looking up just in time to see the mantle completed. It hovered nearby for him to take, and he did so gingerly, glancing at Frey as though unsure that they were really allowing him to take what he'd been working for for so long.

"Thank you, Frey," he said as his fingers brushed the garment, wrapping in the folds and picking it up as though from some invisible coat rack. "This is... it's perfect." Looking at the herald, he added, "Is there anything else I can do for you?" He wasn't sure what he could do for a god, but never let it be said that he didn't offer.
