Character of the Season
Frail in body but dangerously quick of mind, Nikandr is the sort of character who proves that curiosity can be just as perilous as any weapon. A necromancer, inventor, and problem-solver with more ambition than self-preservation, Niki approaches the world like a puzzle box begging to be opened, even when what’s inside has teeth. Blunt, dry-witted, fiercely independent, and carrying a history best left partially buried, he has a knack for making even failure feel fascinating. Whether he’s raising the dead, moving across Caido to King's End, or experiencing a hangover for the first time, Nikandr brings a wonderfully strange spark to Caido, and we can’t wait to see what trouble his brilliant mind wanders into next.
Congratulations, Niki!

"Ah, that is right. I had heard that there were a large number of magic-users in Halo. We are few and far between in the Greatwood, but I imagine there are plenty walking Torchline's shores." Niki smiles across at her, an eyebrow raising as she asks so directly about his magic - and to hear that she possesses telepathy. "You read minds?" he asks, clearly surprised to hear the information given so easily.
His own abilities do not spring off his tongue with such ease, Niki having had mixed reactions to demonstrations of his magic. So he offers, "Summoning," as his own contribution, leaving the other ability unspoken. "And yes, I do enjoy what I do. It is one of the advantages of working for oneself, I think. I imagine you feel the same." Glancing across the boardwalk, he can see the line for the stall has tripled in size since they first joined it, and he lets out a sheepish laugh.
"It has been lovely to have lunch with you, Elizabeth. But shall we let someone else take this table who needs to sit and eat?"

She nods her head, smiling as she thinks about all the Abandoned congregated in Halo. "There are. We even had an Academy for a time. It's great to have community with fellow magic users wherever you are." For trainings or just having someone else understand the struggles of magic, it's something she recommends to everyone.
Elizabeth blushes, realizing how her recent discovery might have twisted her words to reveal more than she meant. She still has more to learn about the magic, but she hopes it's not telepathy, and her hands wave between them to dismiss the slip of tongue. "What? Oh no no no. I meant telekinesis, not telepathy. I can move stuff with my mind, not read other people's." She laughs, nervous as she lifts a finger to move the spoon back into her hand, offering Niki a small smile. "See?"
Ready to move on from that uncomfortable topic, Elizabeth shifts in her seat, setting the plastic spoon in one of the containers to dispose of. "Oh. Summoning." She smiles, obviously interested in the magic, one she hasn't had many opportunities to observe. Perhaps next time she'd ask to see it, but for now, she'd settle for knowing that he enjoys what he does, nodding her head in resolute agreement. "I certainly understand that."
Glancing at the line, she shifts reluctantly to her feet. "That sounds like a great idea. I should probably get going anyways. Halo is a long ways off." Elizabeth tucks her errant strand of hair back behind her ear, grinning politely as she gathers the residue of their meal. "It's been a pleasure eating with you, Niki. I look forward to seeing you around more."
Dive into the sea of thought, and find there pearls beyond price.
"Ah yes, that is right. I believe I read about the Academy once. A shame that it no longer exists," Niki says - and as Elizabeth corrects herself, telekinesis, he watches with fascination as she lifts the spoon back into her hands. "That is very clever," he says with complete sincerity, feeling a small prang of envy at the ability she's able to wield.
Carefully getting to his feet after grabbing his cane, Niki spends a few moments clearing their table to make sure it's clean for the next person, before offering a smile towards his fellow Abandoned. "As do I. Travel safe back home, Elizabeth. I hope Halo is not too cold this Deepfrost." Raising his hand in a wave, the boy turns to head back onto the boardwalk to make the slow stroll back to Wildering House.
