Character of the Season
Frail in body but dangerously quick of mind, Nikandr is the sort of character who proves that curiosity can be just as perilous as any weapon. A necromancer, inventor, and problem-solver with more ambition than self-preservation, Niki approaches the world like a puzzle box begging to be opened, even when what’s inside has teeth. Blunt, dry-witted, fiercely independent, and carrying a history best left partially buried, he has a knack for making even failure feel fascinating. Whether he’s raising the dead, moving across Caido to King's End, or experiencing a hangover for the first time, Nikandr brings a wonderfully strange spark to Caido, and we can’t wait to see what trouble his brilliant mind wanders into next.
Congratulations, Niki!

As Niki teases him and he sees the smirk over the other man’s shoulder, Sunjata chuckles softly. “Y’know, I had such a great time I forgot what I was trying to cope with.” The Heartless says softly, easily as he glances over at Niki with an amused smile. As the pan comes up to temp, he finds himself glancing out the window over the snow that continues to fall down in large sheets, stacking on top of each other to only make a heavier blanket.
“I do.” He muses, the way he was able to forget and leave everything behind and get a good nights sleep before the floor rudely woke him up completely. He glances over as the first pancake goes into the pan, lifting his steel gaze to see Niki’s raised brows and the answer of not being carried to his bedroom a second time which sparks a rich laugh from the Archon. “Alright, I won’t carry you to your bedroom a second time.” He vows – amused but hopeful that they’ve made this little deal that will help him get that magic he desires so much. "Just let me know when you want to. And what you'd like to drink. The House has a pretty stocked bar."

Sunjata speaks with an Australian accent and has a passive magic that makes him produce a subtle scent that matches exactly to whatever those around him most desire him to smell like.
"Well," Niki says with a quiet scoff, "that likely answers the question for you. And if nothing else, now you do not seem to need to cope with it." And no hangover to be seen - perhaps there's something to the new magic the Heartless is looking to gain.
Glancing back to the pan just in time for Sunjata's laughter to hit the air, the necromancer is able to hide his smile at the sound of it under the guise of making sure the pancake isn't sticking. "I am glad that is settled," he says dryly. "And I am available whenever you would like - though if we are going to the House of Midnight, I will certainly have to wait for some kind soul to dig me a way out from my porch."
It's his turn to geture to the snow, Niki mildly surprised to see that it's gotten worse. "And truly, I do not know what I enjoy drinking. Every time I have been drunk it has been with Flora, and everything tends to taste like punch." Really strong, really alcoholic punch.

It’ll probably come back at some point if he sat there and thought about it for a while. But right now he’s focused on helping Niki with the pancakes however he can manage, flashing him a smile as an answer rather than audibly mentioning he could find other things to cope about if he was able to feel like that again. And with one vial left, he’s coveting the remaining vial for when he really needs it.
“I’m sure it won’t take too long.” He reassures Niki despite the fact that the snow is running heavier. Once everything’s all shoveled out, salt tends to help keep it all from piling on too quickly. “But it’ll be fun. I’ll get you set up with a flight so you can test them all and see what you like.” Already he’s thinking about it, the options that he could delve down. It would be the bare bones, of course, because Sunjata’s of the mindset that you could make any of them taste good with enough sugar, but it’s the base that you really want to know you’ll like.
He remains leaning against the counter, eyes drifting back over to Niki as he flips the pancakes, lips quirking into a small smile. “Well, its usually Torchline isn’t it? That’s the vibe. Rum and fruity cocktails are really popular there. I actually import Torchline rum here because it’s asked for so much.” He chuckles softly. “Lots of whiskey options everywhere, though Halo’s whiskey seems to be the most popular one. I’m not a huge fan of it, to be honest. It’s too.. sweet? For my tastes, anyway. Which is kinda saying a lot.” He lifts the coffee cup in question as to his sugary tastes.

"A flight of what?" Niki asks, entirely serious and quietly bemused as he raises an eyebrow across at Sunjata, flipping the pancake with a spatula at the same time. A flight of birds? A flight of stairs? He doubts it's the latter unless the Heartless intends for him to fall down them drunk, but still. "Either way, yes of course. I look forward to it - and to getting out of the house eventually." But not quite yet.
Humming his agreement about Torchline's vibe, the smile on Niki's face is almost nostalgic as he collects a couple of plates to set them on the counter. "All of the cocktails I have tried have been too sweet," he confesses. "It is not that I did not enjoy them, it is just not my preferred taste. I do not know if that makes a difference to your calculations."
Flipping the first pancake onto a plate, he gestures for Sunjata to go ahead and try a bite while he gets more into the pan. "Moment of truth. I cannot say whether we will be better or worse at cooking together or apart until you try it."

“A flight of liquor.” Sunjata says swiftly, snorting softly. “It’s like.. a bunch of smaller drinks so you can try them without having to get full glasses of everything.” He explains – something that he thinks might be more up Niki’s alley. He watches as the necromancer snags a couple of plates to set on the counter while the pancakes continue to cook away in the pan and he nods, lips quirking into a slight smirk as he speaks. “Based off your coffee preferences, I figured you’d probably like the less sweet stuff. Besides, hangovers are worse the sweeter the drink.” He shivers a little with the thought, shaking his head.
But, the plate with the pancake is ready for him to try and he snags it before fumbling around in the drawers to find a fork – finally finding one after the first one he’d opened unsuccessfully. But he leans back against the counter and cuts a little triangle of the pancake before popping it into his mouth, humming contently at the taste. Perfectly sweet, but not too sweet or too dry. “Mm, it’s reeeaaaally good.” He admits, sighing happily.

Feel free to use magic/force on Sunjata, without killing him <3

"I see," Niki says slowly, before scoffing at his own misunderstanding; every day is a school day, or something to that effect. "That does sound more to my taste, especially if I am unsure what I like. I do not think it will do me much good when it comes to my tolerance for alcohol though, if that is what you are hoping." The smaller glasses won't matter if it's straight liquor he's drinking.
Raising an eyebrow to hear Sunjata's remark about hangovers though, Niki pauses as if trying to decide if he's joking. "Is that really true?" he asks. "Because if so, it explains much about the morning after I drank all of those Blue Torchers." And the sorry state of him, if that much can't be read between the lines.
Letting the next pancakes have their moment to cook, Niki waits with baited breath as Sunjata tries the first of the bunch, as if the truth of it might show in his expression despite what he says out loud. Luckily, both seem to match, the necromancer nodding in satisfaction. "There you have it," he says. "You are not so bad at cooking after all."

“I have an idea that will help with that.” He admits with a soft snort. “Plus, you don’t have to finish them.” He offers out, too, in case Niki’s under the impression Sunjata might be offended if he doesn’t down every tiny glass of liquor or cocktail made. After all, Sunjata could finish them all for him without feeling a thing at the end of the day.
But he nods with the mention of the Blue Torcher, because he’d absolutely tasted the sweetness of those and it had been strong enough to burn his throat with intention – something he’d appreciated, but it made a lot of sense for the state of Niki after having more than one of those. “Yeah, at least in my experience. The sweeter they were the worst my head and body ached after.” He admits with a snort, shaking his head. “And those Blue Torchers were very strong and sweet.” He agrees with a soft laugh.
Ah, but then he’s trying the first bite of the pancake, relief swelling through him that they had made it well enough. He’d even say they did a damn good job, evident by the second and third bite he takes. Though, he can’t help but to raise his eyebrows at Niki with the comment, swallowing down the bite for his answer. “Mm, no, you did the measuring and the cooking. I just stirred.” He flashes him a lopsided smile before he’s politely waiting for the rest of the pancakes to be done before he continues to eat – only so Niki can join him and eventually find out when he goes to leave if the front steps have been cleared (they have).

"Well that is a relief," Niki says, and though his tone is all dry amusement, he absolutely would have fallen victim to his own politeness and suffered a rainbow of different liquors despite his preferences. "And I will have to take that into account next time. If I still find myself in a wretched state without drinking my weight in simple syrup, I will know who to blame."
The humour sits easy between them now in a way it hadn't managed to earlier, Niki sliding a few more pancakes onto the plates and grabbing a fork for himself once the last of them have been set out to cook. "Stirring was an integral part of the process," he objects, imperiously waving a bite of pancake at Sunjata before trying it for himself. His smile is as pleasantly surprised as it is knowing, and he settles against the counter to enjoy the rest of their breakfast.
It will be some time before he approaches the door to find the pathway out cleared, but when he does and he finally sees Sunjata out, it will be with the lingering sense of something easy but unfinished in the demigod's wake.
All the more reason, then, to see him again.
