That still brought them to at least eight relics to collect before anyone else could. The concept of association made sense as well. "If it's based on association, whose relics do you think have been collected so far? If we know which relics are accounted for, maybe it'll help us find the others?" Or it might give hints to their location or how to collect them once found. Still the lack of knowledge on what relics the Ascended had would hinder that.
