Lilly circled a few feet from the edge, sniffing the air with equal parts curiosity and caution. "Has anyone checked the top? Or the entrance from the spring? Maybe something large was killed there." That would be a simple explanation, but Sah doubted that they were that lucky. If it was red with blood, the amount needed hinted at quite a kill. Which hinted at an even larger, more dangerous predator.
