Trinket pondered the blacksmith's words, looking into the eyepatch as if she were looking him right in the eye. She did not know the full story behind the loss of the eye, and the blacksmith had been vague enough, but she did not need to ask the details. She already knew the correct answer.
"You did not lose your eye because of curiosity," she said, raising her chin ever so slightly. The doll continued to mimic her movements. "You lost it because of ignorance. Ignorance of the danger that lay before you. Had you known more, asked more questions, learned the truth, then you would have been prepared for the danger, and not lost your eye."
She gave the tiniest of nods. "People sometimes say that curiosity killed the cat. But they're wrong. Ignorance killed it. Curiosity was framed."
Moving on, she then considered the blacksmith's need to work on his axes. That, she decided, could be the game. "The game is called 'Get Ready for Frey.' But the rules aren't what you think."
She picked up her doll and held it against her chest. Its head turned around backwards so it could continue staring at the blacksmith. "The rules are we both need to get an axe. You can finish making yours. And I'll get one for me. And whoever can bring an axe to Frey first wins. It's a race."
The tiniest, slightest of smirks touched her lips. Though no joy shone in her blank, dark eyes. There were lots of games she could play with an axe. If the blacksmith wouldn't give her one, she would play a new game to find one.
